The new Honda e has been engineered to deliver an exceptional driving experience in urban environments. With an outstanding blend of highly responsive dynamics, efficiency and performance, Honda’s next-generation electric vehicle will bring unrivalled fun-to-drive characteristics and usability to the compact electric car segment.

The Honda e, is equipped with a high-power electric motor delivering up to approximately 150PS (110 kW) and impressive torque in excess of 300Nm. The 35.5kWh battery in the Honda e is one of the most compact in its class, contributing to an exceptional balance of low weight, fast-charging capability of 80% in 30 minutes, and a range of over 200km, perfect for every day urban commuting.

Honda engineers paid special attention to enhancing the driving dynamics to deliver a fun and engaging experience. With the battery located low under the vehicle floor, the car’s centre of gravity is approximately 50cm from the ground. With a 50:50 weight distribution, wide yet compact size and short overhangs at the front and rear, the Honda e delivers an optimal balance of stability and handling performance to the compact electric car segment.

To help deliver a sporty character, power is delivered through the rear wheels, which also enables a greater steering articulation for the front wheels. As a result, the turning radius is approximately 4.3 metres, ensuring the Honda e is exceptionally manoeuvrable in small city streets.

The low centre of gravity and planted stature of the Honda e allows body roll to be managed without stiffly-sprung suspension, delivering outstanding handling through fast lane changes. Honda engineers benchmarked the ride quality of the car against larger segment cars, utilising a four-wheel independent McPherson Strut design to ensure a comfortable and refined ride for occupants.

 

The Honda e will also offer Single Pedal Control, enabling the driver to accelerate and slow the car using only the accelerator pedal. When the accelerator pedal is depressed the car will accelerate as normal; when it is released, automatic regenerative braking will occur, and will slow the car. The Single Pedal Control improves driving efficiency in urban environments and reduces the need to use multiple pedals, making the drive more engaging, exciting and seamless with maximum control for the driver.

High-strength materials used in the skeletal structure contribute to structural rigidity while also reducing weight. This lightweight chassis provides the ideal platform from which to fine tune suspension and steering settings for a dynamic driving experience. The Honda e’s dynamic characteristics can be further enhanced by ‘Sport Mode’, which boosts performance through faster acceleration response.

The Honda e is designed to meet the needs of the modern lifestyle. It achieves a unique combination of standout design, advanced functionality and sporty driving dynamics, to create the perfect vehicle for the urban environment.

Honda’s new compact electric car forms part of the brand’s strategy to feature electrified powertrains in all cars it sells in Europe by 2025.

The production version of the Honda e will be unveiled later this year and customers can make a reservation for priority ordering online in UK, Germany, France and Norway or register their interest in other European markets on the Honda national websites.

All-new CR-V.
The latest generation of the Honda CR-V will make its European premiere in Geneva. Available for the first time in Europe with the option of a hybrid powertrain, the new SUV raises the bar in terms of quality, interior packaging and refinement.

A trio of Honda electric concepts.
The Urban EV Concept makes a return to Europe following its global premiere at Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017. The Concept signifies Honda’s intention to enter the European electric vehicle market, with a production version planned for launch next year.

Fresh from its premiere at 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in October, Honda will also display the Sports EV Concept. With an eye catching design and low centre of gravity, it gives a glimpse of how an electric sports car of the future might look.

The final member of an electric trio at Geneva is NeuV. First shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2017, the NeuV is an advanced electric concept packed with autonomous features and artificial intelligence.

Honda’s celebration of Motorsport.
Alongside the range of new electric cars, Honda will show an extensive display of four and two wheel motorsport. The Civic Type R TCR will lead this display and make its first motor show appearance ahead of the inaugural season of WTCR. The TCR will be alongside many examples of Honda racing machinery, including the NSX GT3. On two wheels, Honda’s championship-winning MotoGP bike will feature alongside World Superbike and Dakar Rally challengers.

Jazz X-Road motor show debut.
Honda’s display will be finished with the debut of the Jazz X-Road. Designed as a more rugged option in the range alongside the recently launched Dynamic 1.5-litre i-VTEC, the car features rugged black plastic mouldings around the wheel arches and side skirts, and silver painted front and rear underruns. The exterior look is finished with 16-inch alloy wheels. Power comes from a 103 PS 1.3-litre engine mated to a manual gearbox or optional CVT automatic transmission.

Honda is set to reveal the European production version of the all-new CR-V at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The new generation of the world’s best-selling SUV* raises the bar in terms of interior quality, refinement and spaciousness – including, for the first time, the option of seven seats.

The chassis is also the most sophisticated ever created for a CR-V, and ensures the car delivers an engaging driving experience with exemplary ride comfort, as well as genuine off-road capability.

Evolutionary exterior design and premium quality interior.
The all-new CR-V has a fresh and sophisticated exterior design, with broader, muscular wheel arches, sharper contours on the bonnet and rear quarters, as well as the latest Honda family ‘face’ with its signature headlight graphic.

Thinner A-pillars, sculpted front and rear bumpers, and under-engine and under-floor covers all help to make the new CR-V one of the most aerodynamically efficient vehicles in its class. It also incorporates Honda’s Active Shutter Grille system, which further improves fuel efficiency.

The new interior design incorporates a horizontal emphasis to the dashboard layout to highlight the more spacious cabin, by accentuating the feeling of width and conveying a sense of strength. The dashboard features two 7-inch displays, while the layout of controls has been rationalised with a simple cluster for air-conditioning management located beneath the central touchscreen.

Class-leading practicality and new seven-seat option.
The all-new CR-V boasts slightly larger exterior proportions than its predecessor, and the longer wheelbase and wider stance enable a significantly roomier interior. Best-in-class space efficiency is highlighted by generous accommodation for all occupants, as well as a wider, deeper boot with a longer load bay. A new two-position boot floor enables a flat surface for loading larger items, while a Hands-Free Action power tailgate enables convenient loading access.

Clever features make the new CR-V easier to use every day. For example, the height of the tailgate when opened can be programmed to avoid contact with low ceilings, and cabin flexibility is boosted by a three-mode centre-console storage. Furthermore, new single-action ‘dive down’ 60:40 split-fold second-row seat backs enable faster, easier loading.

For the first time ever, CR-V will be available with the option of seven seats. Where selected, the third row offers exceptional leg room and heel step height, as well as a 101-degree seat angle to ensure long-distance passenger comfort. Access to the third-row seats is also class-leading, thanks to a wide and low step-in aperture.

New engines deliver impressive efficiency and driveability.
For the first time ever, Honda hybrid technology will be offered in an SUV for Europe. The all-new CR-V will be available with Honda’s Intelligent Multi Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system, comprising a 2.0 litre i-VTEC Atkinson cycle petrol engine and two electric motors, to deliver real-world efficiency and effortless driveability. The i-MMD system does not use a conventional transmission – instead, a more compact unit has a single fixed-gear ratio, to create a direct connection between moving components and a smoother transfer of torque.

A 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine, which provides strong performance and class-leading fuel economy, is also available. Power is delivered via a six-speed manual gearbox, or an optional CVT automatic transmission tuned to deliver a more linear response.

The petrol and hybrid powertrains are front-wheel drive as standard, but both can be specified with Honda’s latest all-wheel drive technology – ‘Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System™’ – which gives the CR-V genuine all-terrain capability. Ground clearance has been increased by 38mm for all variants, up to a height of 208mm for the AWD petrol model.

First deliveries of Honda CR-V fitted with the 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine are expected in Autumn 2018 with hybrid models following early in 2019.

Honda took the opportunity at its 2018 Geneva Motor Show press conference to confirm that order books for a production version of its Urban EV Concept will open in early 2019.

Speaking during Honda’s 2018 Geneva motor show press conference, Senior Vice President, Honda Motor Europe, Philip Ross confirmed the news, “A production version of this highly acclaimed concept will be introduced to Europe during late 2019, and in response to the positive feedback to this model, we expect to open order banks for the Urban EV during early 2019.”

Urban EV Concept.
The Urban EV Concept previews Honda’s first mass-produced battery electric vehicle sold in Europe. The Concept features a simple and sophisticated design, slim A-pillars and wide windscreen that appears to sweep around the entire front of the passenger cabin.

Inside, four occupants can be accommodated in comfort across the concept car’s two bench seats, which are finished in different materials to create the ambience of a lounge. The front row is upholstered with a natural grey fabric and embellished with contemporary wood finish accents. The dashboard features a wrap-around screen that extends into the doors. The dashboard display presents a range of vehicle information, while the extended door screens function as the car’s side mirrors through digital camera displays.

4. Honda moves into Customer Racing

Multiple examples of the new Honda Civic TCR, built by JAS Motorsport, have been ordered by ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport and Boutsen Ginion Racing to contest the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) this year.

Tiago Monteiro and Esteban Guerrieri, who drove for the Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team in 2017, are the first two drivers confirmed to race the Civic TCR.

ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport have chosen Esteban to lead their line-up while Boutsen Ginion Racing have recruited Tiago for their team.

Tiago, 41, was a standout performer in World Touring Cars last year and was cruelly denied a chance of turning his championship lead into a world title when he sustained injuries in a mid-season testing accident that forced him to sit out the rest of the campaign.

The only Portuguese driver to finish on a Formula 1 podium, Tiago is one of touring-car racing’s global stars with 11 wins and 44 podiums in the WTCC to his name as well as victories in the prestigious Macau Guia Race and TCR Benelux.

Esteban, 33, joined Honda for the final three WTCC events of 2017, substituting for the injured Tiago, and took a dominant victory from pole position at the season-ending race in Qatar on his way to fourth place in the Drivers’ Championship.

He is a multiple race winner in Super TC2000 in his native Argentina and has also claimed victories in the Indy Lights and Formula Renault 3.5 single-seater series to add to championship success in the Formula Renault Eurocup.

All-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport, who have previously run a Honda Civic TCR in the FIA European Touring Car Cup, bring a wealth of racing success to the Honda Racing family.

FIA GT1 World Champions in 2012, the team from Friedersdorf, Germany, have claimed a number of WTCC victories and have twice triumphed at the Macau Guia Race. Boutsen Ginion Racing have been customers of the Civic TCR programme for the past two seasons and achieved huge success in both.

Stephane Lemeret claimed the TCR Benelux drivers’ crown in 2016 while Benjamin Lessenes did likewise in 2017 as well as adding the junior drivers’ title for the team from Wavre, Belgium.

Technical support will be offered to all customer teams by JAS Motorsport with an on-site supply of spare parts and technical assistance at each event, aimed at helping all Honda drivers with their title challenges.

The new Honda Civic TCR, designed and manufactured by JAS, made its global race debut in January this year at the 24 Hours of Dubai. It is the successor to the Civic TCR which won 12 championship titles last year – seven drivers’ and five teams’ crowns.

The FIA World Touring Car Cup begins at the Circuit Moulay el Hassan in Marrakech, Morocco, on April 7-8 and comprises 10 events in Africa, Europe, South America and Asia; concluding on the iconic Macau street circuit on November 17-18.

Tiago Monteiro, Boutsen Ginion Racing, said: “I’m delighted to remain part of the Honda Racing family for another year. Since I first worked with Honda in 2012, I feel we’ve been getting stronger and stronger by the season and by last year we were in a very good place to win the championship before my accident. Boutsen Ginion Racing are a strong team, who I’ve won races with in TCR before, so I can’t wait to drive the car and for the season to start.”

5. Type R lap records – Jenson Button leads Honda’s Civic Type R Time Attack 2018

Honda is aiming to reinforce the class leading status of the award-winning Civic Type R by using a squad of racing stars to set new lap time benchmarks at iconic European racetracks.

Although the complete driver line-up is still to be finalised, Honda has confirmed that former Formula 1 World Champion and current NSX Super GT driver Jenson Button (UK) will take part in the challenge. WTCR drivers Tiago Monteiro (Portugal), Esteban Guerrieri (Argentina) and NSX Super GT star Bertrand Baguette (Belgium) will join Jenson for the challenge.

A similar challenge in 2016 saw benchmark lap times set at Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, Estoril and Hungaroring using the previous generation Civic Type R. The drivers included racers from the British Touring Car Championship and World Touring Car Championship.

For the 2018 edition, Honda will aim to exceed the times set at Silverstone (UK), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) and Estoril (Portugal) in 2016, with further tracks set to be announced.

The new Honda Civic Type R retains the heritage of Honda’s high-performance hatchback bloodline and is the fastest accelerating and quickest car in its class. The latest car to sport the famous ‘red H’ was part of the all-new tenth-generation Civic’s development programme – the largest in Honda’s history – and was engineered to deliver the most rewarding drive in the hot hatch segment, both on road and on the race track. It features a lightweight, highly rigid bodyshell, low centre of gravity, and sophisticated dual-axis strut front suspension system, which reduces torque steer and enhances on-the-limit cornering.

Powered by a 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO engine, the new Honda Civic Type R offers a peak power output of 320 PS at 6,500 rpm, and peak torque of 400 Nm from 2,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The car has a top speed of 272 km/h (169 mph) and 0-62 mph is achieved in just 5.7 seconds. In April 2017, a production development car became the fastest front-wheel drive production car ever around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a lap time of 7min 43.8sec.

Dan Cammish to race for Halfords Yuasa Racing in 2018 BTCC

Halfords Yuasa Racing has recruited two-time Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion Dan Cammish to pilot its second Honda Civic Type R alongside Matt Neal in the 2018 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Cammish arrives at the team with a fine pedigree in the sport and several seasons on the BTCC support package under his belt. The Yorkshireman was the architect of an astonishing campaign in British Formula Ford in 2013 – winning all 24 races he entered to wrap the title up with two meetings to go – before clinching back-to-back crowns in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2015 and 2016.

Cammish spent last year contesting both the PCCGB and the pan-European Porsche Supercup. He finished third in the domestic championship – despite missing two races mid-season – as he triumphed eight times from 13 starts, more than any of his rivals in a campaign highlighted by a stunning victory at Le Mans following a frenetic final lap four-way scrap for supremacy.

The 28-year-old added to that with fourth in the fiercely-disputed international series, with three podium finishes to his credit, including an amazing 2nd place on his debut in Monaco and he will now replace Gordon Shedden at Honda’s factory BTCC team Halfords Yuasa Racing, following the Scot’s announcement last month that he will be leaving the championship.

  • Lap time achieved in development car with technical specifications representative of the final production carFollowing the production model’s debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the all-new Honda Civic Type R has set a new benchmark lap time for front-wheel drive cars at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. On 3 April 2017, a development car lapped the world-famous circuit in 7 minutes 43.8 seconds.

    The lap time was achieved during the final phase of the model’s testing regime, on a dry track with an optimum ambient temperature for the best tyre and powertrain performance. The new time represents an improvement of nearly seven seconds compared to the model’s predecessor.

    The new Civic Type R was part of the all-new tenth-generation Civic’s development programme – the largest in Honda’s history – and was engineered to deliver the most rewarding drive in the hot hatch segment, both on road and on the race track.

    Several factors contributed to the new Civic Type R’s new benchmark time at the Nordschleife. At its heart is the optimised and refined 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO engine, producing 320 PS and 400Nm of torque. New lower gear ratios in the six-speed manual transmission further improve the car’s acceleration, while the new Type R‘s comprehensive aerodynamic package delivers outstanding high-speed stability, with a best-in-class balance between lift and drag.

    The high-rigidity body frame of the all-new Civic Type R is 16kg lighter than the previous model’s, with a torsional stiffness improvement of 38%, which provides significant benefits to steering response and cornering stability. New multi-link rear suspension enhances stability under braking and reduces the total roll movement of the car, enabling later braking into corners and helping to achieve higher cornering speeds during the lap.

    Ryuichi Kijima is the lead chassis engineer for the Honda Civic Type R. He explains where the all-new model shows the most significant improvements around the Nürburgring compared to the previous generation car.

    “The cornering speed achieved in the new Type R is higher because the car features a wider track and tyres, a longer wheelbase, new multi-link suspension in the rear and optimised aerodynamics that improves stability, ” said Kijima-san. “For example, drivers typically enter the corner after Metzgesfeld at around 150 km/h. Even at this medium-speed corner, the speed is around 10 km/h higher due to the new Type R’s excellent stability. So, with improved cornering performance, we can increase the speed throughout the lap, helping the new Type R to achieve a much quicker lap time.”

    The development car that achieved the lap time was technically representative of production specification. A full floating roll cage was installed for safety reasons, but its presence did not provide any additional rigidity to the body frame. The extra weight of the cage was compensated for by the temporary removal of the infotainment system and rear seats. The car was using road legal track-focused tyres.

    Production of the new Civic Type R for European customers will begin in summer 2017 at Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) in Swindon – the global manufacturing hub for the tenth generation Civic hatchback. The Type R will be exported across Europe and to other markets around the world, including Japan and the US. Its arrival in North America will mark the first time that any Honda-badged Type R has been officially sold there.

    Revised 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO engine and 6-speed manual transmission
    The 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO ‘heart’ of the multi-award-winning previous generation Type R has been optimised and refined and now produces 320 PS with peak torque of 400 Nm. Throttle response and driveability have improved thanks to optimised engine control settings.

    The smooth and precise six-speed manual transmission is further improved by a rev match control system, ensuring no compromise in the Type R’s intimate, rewarding connection with the driver.

    A stiffer chassis and revised suspension
    The new Type R takes the lighter, more rigid body shell of the new Civic hatchback and adds further use of adhesive in key areas. Compared to the previous Type R, torsional rigidity is further improved by 38%.

    The front Macpherson strut suspension of the standard hatchback is revised with new geometry to minimise torque steer and maximise sporty handling. At the rear, the new independent multi-link system of the standard car is improved with the use of unique high rigidity suspension arms.

    Enhanced driving modes
    An enhanced selection of driving modes give the car greater usability compared to the previous Type R. A new ‘Comfort’ setting sits alongside agile ‘Sport’ and track-focused ‘+R’ modes. Each selection tailors the adaptive dampers, steering force, gear shift feeling and throttle response of the car on demand.

    Refined aerodynamics for high-speed stability
    The all-new Type R has a more comprehensive aerodynamic package than the previous model, including a smoother underbody, front air curtain, a lightweight rear wing and vortex generators at the trailing edge of the roof line. The muscular, aggressive body has a best-in-class balance between lift and drag, contributing to greater high speed stability.

    Produced in Europe, exported to major markets worldwide

Honda UK has today announced both residual values and a full pricing list for the 10th generation Civic, which is set to hit dealer forecourts in late March.

Starting from £18,235 on the road for the entry level S grade 129PS VTEC TURBO in manual, the range tops out at £27,480 on the road for the 182PS VTEC TURBO Prestige with a CVT transmission. Metallic paint is an option and adds £525 to the price.

With the arrival of the new 10th generation Civic and in line with the current trend towards smaller, more efficient powertrains, Honda has launched two new petrol engines; a 1.0 litre three cylinder which produces 129PS and a more powerful 1.5 litre four cylinder which delivers 182PS. 

And as well as pricing, Honda has also released residual values for the new Civic ahead of its UK launch. The hotly anticipated Civic has received a further boost with residual values predicted to be among the best in its class.

Industry experts and residual value setters CAP forecast the British-built 10th generation Civic will hold up to 37% of its value after 36 months and 60,000 miles.

That’s an impressive increase of 9% on the previous generation Civic and puts the newcomer well ahead of many of its key competitors.

The news comes just weeks after CAP predicted two of Honda’s newest and most popular models – the stylish Jazz city car and acclaimed HR-V crossover – would outperform all forecasts and achieve market-leading residual value levels.

And it underlines the confidence the automotive industry has in the reliability, value for money and desirability of Honda’s model line-up.

With Britain’s biggest automotive garden party just a few short weeks away, the wraps have come off the Honda stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Harking back to the toy boxes of the 1970s and 1980s, the Honda stand for the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed is loosely based on the iconic Fisher Price toy garage everyone of a certain age possessed.

Just like the original 26cm tall toy garage first seen in 1970, the 10m tall Honda version will feature three levels in bright red and yellow colours, vehicle ramp and the iconic tower – although the lift has been taken up with exciting installations for the McLaren Formula One car and the Civic Sport.

As with the original, which was discontinued over 30 years ago in 1985, the Honda stand will have a turning handle on the second level and access from two sides. The first floor will feature the Jazz, HR-V, the Iconic Africa Twin and the McLaren Formula One car while the upper floor will be an invite only VIP area and have the another Africa Twin. 

Sadly Goodwood visitors will not be able to whizz down the ramp as this will house the road-going RC213V-S bike and the 2016 BTCC Honda Civic Type R.

The ground floor will feature the Fireblade Isle of Man TT Special, a Civic Type R, the Civic Sport, the CR-V, HR-V and NSX – making it the first time the UK public can see Honda’s new supercar at close quarters.

HALFORDS YUASA RACING PARTS WAYS WITH ANDY NEATE!

Halfords Yuasa Racing will be a two-car squad for the remainder of the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, after ending its relationship with third driver Andy Neate with immediate effect.

Series organiser TOCA has been kept aware of developments throughout the process and has agreed to the withdrawal of the car from the remainder of the 2016 Championship, and has subsequently recalled the loaned TBL (TOCA BTCC Licence) associated with that entry.

Halfords Yuasa Racing still holds two permanent TBLs, which are required for each entry to guarantee participation, whilst this third licence was loaned to the team prior to the 2016 season.

This loaned TBL shall be re-allocated by TOCA from the next event (Thruxton) to another team/entry for the rest of the season – details of which will be announced in due course.

Halfords returns with Team Halfords Yuasa Racing.

Halfords returns with Team Halfords Yuasa Racing for the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season, with the team ready to defend its driver and manufacturer titles with Gordon Shedden, Matt Neal and new signing Andy Neate.

Halfords will be back on the BTCC grid after a seven-year absence, as co-title sponsor of last year’s championship winning team, which now competes as Team Halfords Yuasa Racing. Scotsman Gordon Shedden will return to defend his drivers’ championship title after an exhilarating 2015 season, with team-mate and three-time champion Matt Neal entering his 26th year in the UK’s premier motorsport category.

The team also expands to three cars for the first time since 2006, with the experienced Andy Neate joining the squad.

Halfords sponsored Team Dynamics’ motorsport programme for five years from 2004 to 2008, with Matt Neal winning the first two championships of his BTCC career behind the wheel of the famous Honda Integra Type R, also becoming the first independent driver to win the overall drivers’ championship in the British Touring Car Championship’s history.

Gordon Shedden joined the Halfords and Team Dynamics family in 2006, taking four wins and helping Team Halfords to its second consecutive teams’ championship title in his debut season.

BTCC Honda Yuasa Racing secures first motorsport title for new Civic Type R

The new Honda Civic Type R has this weekend added motorsport honours to its growing list of plaudits, as Honda Yuasa Racing clinched the drivers and manufacturers championship in the 2015 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in a tense final round at Brands Hatch.

Continuing the success story for the most high performance car ever to wear the red ‘H’ badge, the new Honda Civic Type R was developed with help from the brand’s World Touring Car Team. Vital analysis and feedback from the track informed decisions about performance and styling, supporting the British team to driver and manufacturer titles in its first competitive year.

The road-going version of the Civic Type R broke cover at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show back in March and with the Dunlop MSA British Touring Cars season kicking off just a few short weeks after, the Honda Yuasa Racing team required special assistance from Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) to ensure the car was ready to race.

Billed as a race car for the road, the aggressive hot hatch set the fastest time for a front wheel drive car around the legendary Nurburgring and has a total output of 310ps, a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 170 mph.
