Their drop ins have less lift compared to TDI's (SVM 12.4mm TDI 12.8mm)
There's other areas like duration and profile. TDI have been secretive with their cam dimensions and I don't blame them, after all they've developed them.

And what does less lift result in? You can get just about up to 270bhp with tdi drop ins with the optimum mods which is great for a track car where you to stay above 6k RPM all day but if it sacrifices mid range I'm not sure I'd want to lose it on a daily driver where typically you want to do pulls from 3-4000rpm.

Well less lift possibly less power. But things like duration and cam profile all play apart. It gets very technical and tbh I'm not totally clued up on cam tuning. The bigger the lift, longer the duration = power, but there's a lot more to it than that.
The TDI drop ins do look good but for the price of just the cam, I could buy an alternative drop in set and get it mapped. It's justifying the cost of them. If I can get a set of cams that gives similar gains give or take 3-5bhp and save £200-400 then they'll be worth it.

See if Tegiwa will do a deal on the new Skunk2 cams in exchange for a review, don't believe anyone has used them yet and I'm sure there's a few people that are intrigued to see what their like.

I did think of this. Ideally you want a comparison before and after. Problem is my car has changed from last time it was tuned and I'm doing the cam swap to save money. Unless they'd be willing to pay for someone to tune the car first with the standard cams and then pay for the cam swap, it's doubtful.

Incorrect. Loads of material available on the net to clue you up. That's another one of these "the bigger the number the better" myths and it's all relative to the rest of the motor.

When you talk about taking a 5bhp hit on DIC cams to save a couple of hundred quid, that's potentially halving the expected power at a given rpm range compared to the other set. Food for thought.

At the end of the day whichever brand of DIC's you go for there won't be a massive difference between them all.

Didn't realise you could get springs and retainers that cheap. Import from the USA?
I'm also reading that stage 2 cams ect benefit from a higher CR like 12:1 to get the most out of them or go K24. Now I'm thinking cheap DIC for now and a winter build upping the CR and Stage 2 cams and sell on the DIC.

Kseriesparts also offer a lower declared value for non US buyers. I bought my k20a modified oil pump on HPT. Best price around. But for the valvetrain kit I'd go with kseriesparts.

Not much going down recently. Noticed over the last week or 2 that I've been getting soot deposits on the rear bumper. Followed by an intermittent engine management light. Turned out to be the lambda on its way out. After fitting I did notice it was slightly crisper on part throttle.
As for the cam situation...

I got them pretty cheap. TDI North tested these on a DC5 (these are the exact cams used) and over majority of the rev range the produce the same or 1-2bhp less until past 8k where they make a little more power (comparing to the JDM cams). EP3 engine is slightly different so would be interesting to see how they perform. Either way they're a good upgrade over the OEM cams.
Reason I didn't go nuts with stage 2's is I'm a little undecided what I'm going to do with the car at the end of the year. My heart wants an E46 M3 and make it a pure track weapon. But that's an expensive route and would put my house buying fund on hold. Don't think I'm prepared to do that.
In talks with Meister R about their GT1 coilovers I'm keen in. So the current set up could be up for grabs!

When the cost of the cams and the mapping will be less than the price of say TDI's drop in cams alone, I wouldn't be that bothered if it was only 5bhp. I'm not after mega bhp figures. Just a little more than what it's got with better drive ability. When it comes to track days it's far less about power and more about set up and driver ability.

Meister R GT1 coilovers are on order. 2-3 weeks hopefully they'll be here. Tempted to book up some track time for Trax at Silverstone. What puts me off is it's a massive chav/Vauxhall fest and many of them knobs will be on track. But then it's a cheap option to get out on Silverstone.
Looking to book another Nürburgring trip at the start of August just for a weekend.
