My car has a trust cat back and nothing else, no header or manifold or kpro/k100
all runs were conducted with the bonnet shut
We had two runs using a modified oem airbox and oem air filter
Run 1. 216bhp at around 6800rpm
Run 2. 217bhp at around 6900rpm
The next two runs were using a three month old typhoon kit which had covered around 1500 miles tops
Run 1. 215bhp at around 7500rpm
Run 2. 212bhp at around 7900rpm
So you can see definitively with the cone filter, the car is losing chunks of power. I think if we'd done more runs with the cone the figures would have steadily worsened.
Ben couldn't email me the graphs because he had no memory stick but he's sending them to me tomorrow so I will post them up.
I have argued for the k+n in the past so it's been a placebo effect kicking in because of the noise levels and the feeling of a much more aggressive crossover. The aggressive crossover is in effect because the car was running poorly low down which accentuates the 'on cam' feel of the car
I still love the k+n for the sound track but guess what, the oem box is back on and k+n is shortly going up for sale. Like I said, can't be beaten for sound but if your chasing figures then it's no good

Ok so after the car did two runs basically in stock form apart from cat back:
Q1: why didnt you do the runs on different days ??? After the 1st few runs the engine bay temps would have been quite high!!
Q2: Do you think that was a fair test???? we know these cone kits are always better off on the move!!! Hense why after sitting in traffic tooo long they seen to behave sluggish!!!
Q3:The bonnet open or close which do you think is more than likely to have the better result??? Bare in mind that when on the move the airflow around your engine is greater than when sat on a dyno!!! Thus keeping the temp under bonnet cooler.
To me i do give credit as your car seems to be healthy but despite what you have put up figures wise there will always be debatable as i myself have made good figures with a aem v2 before!!!
Its my view that the honda airbox is designed to drown the intake sound ive taken my airbox apart and most can tell its too restictive so much loops and turns!! I believe most of the cone kits will give power over standard for eg: The pipercross thread a while back ppl disputed the claims even with dyno evidence!!!
In hot wether they do suffer in my view but on the move its a different matter!!!
Also why is it that the oem air box modded wood be better plastic retains heat the engine bay will be hot so the filter inside a box thats about 4mm thick wont exactly be cool infact!!! I'm sure if ppl put a temp probe with in the air box and after 1hr30 check it again it Would be clompletey different!!!!
