Is CM any good? They have an official installer on the website and I'm considering doing it to my z1

Pretty much all custom roms use CM as the base and then modify or anyway

Not sure custom roms really offer that much any more. Vaguely interesting to play around with.

Will I need to backup to the cloud prior to install? I have a lot of photos and a few other bits and bobs I don't want to lose

Ah yeah, last time I tried a sony the software was terrible! Nothing to lose really, if you don't like it restore stock. Backup nearly everything to google, contacts, photos etc. SMS backup and restore for texts.

Seems an insane resolution for a phone. Cant fault my S5 at all, the above would be even better I guess though I question what actual difference that resolution will make on a phone or the need for even more power, pretty damn quick as it is.

Nearly always the case with technology anyway, though not usually within a month or two.

so Samsung are going to screw their users about and take the Apple approach to device releases - this will effectively be a S5s - I was at the airport looking at the Samsung part of Dixons as was amazed at just how many variants of each device they now have, it's crazy and stupid but I am sure their marketing people who know much more than I do are confident in their decisions and actions

Crazy how soon it is though, you expect technology to move quite quickly and never be able to keep up with it to a certain degree, but this seems very quick although the rumours could be way off...

HTC got to a similar point with too many devices and it confused customers. Their simpler line up was better but Constantly releasing devices call the HTC One ... is a little silly imo.

Don't think there is a Nexus 6 planned anyway mate.

This Android Silver seems to be their new platform of choice, and I'm still super confused as to why they offloaded Motorola if they're intent on cracking the mobile device market.
