Hi Oilman!

My car is due its annual service shortly and I am looking at supplying my own oil when it goes into the garage. It currently has Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow C3 0W-30 in it at the moment and I want to replace it with another good quality oil. I'm thinking along the lines of Fuchs/Silkolene. What would you recommend?

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs Supersyn, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

Thanks for the reply. Your website recommends 0w-30 oils so what would be the difference between that and a 5w-40 oil?

0w-30 is the standard choice, but if you use the VTEC a lot, the oil can get burned off pretty quickly. A 5w-40 doesn't get burned off as quickly and still protects well.

I don't use the vtec a great deal so that's not too much of an issue. I am going order some oil later this evening from the website and was thinking of getting fuchs titan supersyn sae 0w-30 fully synthetic super fuel economy. Would this be a good grade to buy and would 5 litres be enough for a full oil change (Inc. Filter).
