I wouldn't bother personally Mike. Like Mark has said in the past, if you don't already have the trailor/license to tow it, that's more £XXX.
Also with that new rule coming in next year that your car has to be insured/taxed even on the drive, you might as well drive it there and back.

Have you considered a mk2 Golf GTI? I know several that run them as track cars. Same with E36 BMWs. You'll see a wide variety of cars on Friday, have a chat to drivers and it'll give you some good ideas.
This, do you want an idea of how cheap this can be? I'll tell you how cheap - very.
My dad picked up an M3 evo coupe for us to use as a track slag a couple of years back.
Car was mechanically sound with only 80k on it but body was tatty, nothing bad, scabby arches, parking dents, scuffs here and there....but it drove beautifully. It cost just under 3k.
First thing, rip out all the interior you can, the m3 stuff makes surprising money on ebay due to the people wanting to tart up 328's etc.
First thing on ebay was the vadar grey leather interior. £600
Next thing was the wheels which surprisingly were mint £400 thats a grand back already.
m3 wheel and gear knob went for over £100 quid and by selling the little trim pieces and airbags, atc we made back nearly another £400. it worked out that we had an m3 for well under £1500 quid.!
In the first year we just put on some tatty 328is split rims that were picked up for under £100 and two cheap bucket seats of ebay and went to track :-D
Also the amount of weight that can be taken out of them is unreal and the performance goes up drastically, at spa this year (admittedly the car has developed somewhat since that first year) we were chasing and passing porche 996/7's for fun. And the car probably still owes less than 5k in total.

I must admit, when I was considering the 2 car approach instead of a dual purpose car, E36's were pretty much top of my list. Cracking engine, RWD and good chassis.
