I have a contact at ADAC should you wish to join. She speaks better English than some people on here.
Ross, not sure what your plan is with accomodation at the Ring but I can speak to a couple of guesthouse owners and see if I can get any deals once dates have been confirmed.
Yeah will join adac if this all goes ahead, seems like a very decent price tbh.
Would love to know in the next month or so if this is to go ahead for definite, as I will put a few things on the back burner, being a man of petty finances there are savings that need to be done. Don't want to miss this as it has taken a few years just to get a semi-decent repsonse to the idea of doing another trip.
As for what you need to carry, it differs from one EU country to another, so it is generally best to carry the most.
2 Warning triangles. It is the spanish requirement to have two, one in front and one behind the car.
Spare bulb kit. Must be complete, if you have a blown bulb you will be asked to change it at the side of the road. THe French Police love doing this apparently.
Hi-Vis. French law requires on the driver, others require two and some require one per person who is travelling.
Headlamp converters. Install on the Chunnel and carry a spare set as zee French youth will pull them off UK cars in supermarket car parks.
GB sticker. If not on your reg plate.
First Aid kit. While most do not require this to be carried, there is a little known 'Good Samaritans' law in the EU that requires you to stop at the scene of an accident if you happen across one and no-one else has stopped. This is to provide assistance and call for the authorities.
As the above little known law, a fire extinguisher is also recommended.
All of the above should be easily accessable from the passenger cabin if the boot is full, especially to hi-vis.
This link on Halfords has a good table half way down with the requirements per country.
It is also worth noting the single emergency number for the EU, 112. Dial this and it is the same as 999. A translation service will be provided.
Then as mentioned, you need your V5, insurance documents etc.
This is also the link for the Swiss Motorway toll which I forgot to add above. http://www.ezv.admin.ch/zollinfo_privat ... ml?lang=en
This is about £25 and is needed to travel on thier motorways and trunk roads, it can be bought in service stations approaching the boarder or *I think* it can be posted before the trip.
There is of course the French toll system for the way back.
Not done something on this scale before, but yes I am thinking about joining the run, if zee newbs are allowed .. but the same as you, I need to save some pennies to enable that. But luckily I have an extra 6 days holiday to use this year so this seems like a perfect opportunity.
With this, holiday later in the year and JAE, many miles to be done
For the chunnel, it might be worth trying to get up a group booking and I will look into that this week.
Flexible tickets are £200 each way, with fixed tickets around £60 e/w in June. Hopefully a deal can be done.
For the sake of getting prices I am using Mon 13 June to Fri 24 June, going to ask for the quote for 20 cars at the moment and see what comes back. Watch this space.
From experience the chunnel are very good with getting you on a train if you are early/late.

FYI, Tesco Clubcard vouchers can be redeemed on the Eurotunnel.
I would always travel Eurotunnel given the choice but often I end up on Norfolkline because it's so much cheaper, even with my 30% Eurotunnel discount.
