i had that problem, over-filled the tranny with gearbox oil. don't laugh, it worked. the car was lifted leaning towards the right, hence the more oil it could hold.

Hi Marxx,
I know there has been talk saying its the input shaft bearing or the engine mounts or this and that but SO many people have said its the thrust bearing and I've seen before and after results of a thrust bearing being changed now and it was EXACTLY the same noise that I have so I think it is the thrust bearing.

Either way, I am ignoring it til something happens..... :???:

This is the ansver from Grinspeed.."Yeh that is what I said the release bearing or the thrust people call it differant things.
when the clutch is free spining it make a wearing noise and when you press the clutch it disapears
Once I had the stacks in the gearbox moving as the circlip in the end had broken if you are changing the release bearing it would be worth just checking this at the same time I would do this for free at the same time.
I am fairly sure it is the release bearing but will need to see it to be 100%"

I have exactly that noise, had it for 2 years! Honda have taken my box out and can't find anything wrong! (surprisingly!)

Went to TDI and they diognose it as the input shaft bearing. Not a biggie, but having all my bearings changed soon.

This is a fairly common fault on these cars I have done a few of these now if you are near to me I can do them for you or you can send me the gearbox and I will re-build it for you save you going to the sealers!?

Stevie

hi Steve

from your experiencei can be only the release bearing or the input shaft bearing? because if i'm going into this i would like not to have any surprises
in my country the parts are very expensive and it would be good to know if i'll have to change some other bearings or to be in the situation of changing those two bearings and after that the noise is still there.

could you tell me what would be the cost for this fix.

Thanks a lot :salut:

Marxx did u change the bearings? did u find the faulty one?

go for a LSD and you have the job done in the best way possible ... so only the input shaft bearings were bad? this is good since i don;t need to buy all the bearings in the gearbox :-D

good luck with the diff finding :salut:
