Fair enough. And the CRZ-R will be?
I would consider anything below 7 seconds to be a reasonable performance car.
You've changed your tune!

Actually, I expect I would call the CR-Z-R a performance car too, but I'm evidently more liberal with the usage of that term. But if the Lexus is out on the grounds that it's a luxury car, the CR-Z is out because it will be front wheel drive and not really all that quick.

(By the way, that fat lardy Lexus posts similar laptimes to the FN2 ;) )

I have no idea, its not been made yet but if it is in the mould of previous Type R's then yes it will be.

I guess some people do not have the same expectations of a performance car and will settle for any old shit.
Nope, just some people disagree on what cars fall into which categories.

A 5 series diesel will do 60 in under 7 seconds, its not a performance car. You are just completely wrong.

Note the word reasonable though. I still stand by the previous discussion we had on performance cars. The term is used to often these days that at the end of the day so many manufacturers are producing cars in this sector now its getting beyond a joke. Even Citroen produce a 197BHP mini hatch now. Is that a performance car? Of course not.

Its going to be interesting to see what the next couple of years bring because unfortunately its going to be the EU that kills off anything interesting.

The CRZ (in any form) will be successful just by the fact it looks a bit different and of course its green credentials, people just love being green these days.

Hmmm, I'm still hopeful that common sense will prevail and the whole CO2 fallacy will be seen for what it is by then. Then again, this is the EU....

Common sense is dead. You only have to travel around to see the argument is lost. 98% of cars sold in the German market are diesel. Says it all mate. Its game over. Manufacturers are going to have to turn to alternate methods of performance and luckily Honda seem pretty well placed. Maybe their Earth dreams platform wasn't too far off the mark in the first place? Who knows?

This is for you my lovely EU: :stfu:

By your criteria, all it needs to be is "reasonably driver focused, good handling, nice power to weight, possibly some small aggressive looks". I'd say it gets in by your criteria, do mine matter? ;)

Ok you can agree to disagree and I shall agree you are wrong. Everyone's a winner.

Can't believe I'm wasting time arguing which of two cars I have no interest in fall into an entirely arbitrary category.

I think ideally I'd set the cutoff to a Nordschleife lap time - somewhere between 8:30 and 9:00. Faster and it's in (but it might still be a rubbish performance car if it isn't nice to drive).

Do the government still give £1,000 cashback on these hybrid thingies?

Don't be silly. Now that people are actually buying them they don't want to give out money unnecessarily. You can, however, claim £1000 off any cars powered by nuclear fission, at least until manufacturers get round to making them...

Well I can't remember can I? Since I've never thought of having one in my worst nightmares, how am I supposed to know what they've withdrawn and what they haven't!

Simple, if it benefits real people, they've withdrawn it. If it theoretically will benefit real people at some unknown point in the future, they'll withdraw it later.

Not true. If Honda had called it the Honda Skoolsnospitals it would have had cash thrown at it.

Or the Honda Globalwarmingosolver.

I'm still intrigued as to where Honda think the customers will come from. Enthusiasts are pretty much out on this one, it's far too slow for a start. Honda don't have the image for the Mini/MiTo/A1 crowd to care, regardless of it being a hybrid, so the "it" (i.e thick middle aged house wife) crowd are out.

It's far too expensive for young drivers to get excited about, which leaves us with the second car for an enthusiast family with no kids. The ones that would actually spend £17-20k on an impractical, two seat, space deficient Japanese sports car with a neutral brand image.

Thing is, that car has existed for 20 years and it's a LOT better than a CR-Z is likely to be:

Ali, no matter what you think the CRZ will sell by the bucketload. Just you watch.
