Opinions and discussion are welcomed but the name calling and petty retorts are now becoming tiresome and getting in the way of what would otherwise be a great section with a lot of useful information.

So the noise I’ve been hearing. It’s when you are doing engine braking mainly, or if you are coasting along doing 30 in 3rd. Each time you let the momentum of the car turn the engine the noise get audible. It sounds a bit like a grinding noise, possibly bearings. If you just gently touch the accelerator it almost disappears..I heard that it is possible that the bearings are making noise(Input shaft bearings)if someone had a similar problem?Car is Civic Type R Ep3 2004 95.000km..6 speed..

quite a common problem, not sure it's been nailed down exactly what it is but most people just ignore it. Mine has never got worse and I can't hear it anymore since my engine mount inserts were fitted. It started when I fitted a facelift flywheel, but not sure if that is connected or not. Might be mainshaft bearings or something else.

It sounds like the noise I have. A couple of mechanic friends both said it was the thrust/clutch release bearing. Does the noise go away when you push the clutch pedal down? If so it's probably that.

N&N suggested I ignore mine and I am til I need new clutch!

You right! but on k20 org say its the Mainshaft bearings thats makes the sound-C/P-haha , its mainshaft bearings id say 100%. idle the car , step on the clutch. than listen while you let it out , if it starts whirring , its mainshaft bearings.

Mine does this, only noticced it in the last month or so, spoke to TDI North who said it may be the front engine mount as they had had one or two withthe same type of problem and noticed the mount wearing / splitting allowing the enigne to move when you come on / off the throttle.

Mines going for a service there in the next couple of weeks and their going to have a look at it, so will see what they come up with.

A lot of people have said clutch release/thrust bearing dude. Apparently its a common problem with close ratio boxes. it's not getting worse and has done nothing to the performance so I'm leaving it til I need a new clutch.
If the problem persists with a new clutch then I may get someone to explore a bit further. Getting a gearbox looked at is bed-shittingly expensive though so we'll see....
