Purchased some HEL hoses last thursday (along with some DS2500 pads :-D )
Anyways the hoses were delivered on Friday and the car was booked in for everything fitted on tusday. When I opened the hoses on friday they looked second hand and had definately been fitted to another car. I was abit miffed so sent them an email, I was also advised by the garage not to fit them as they had been on another car for sometime and had a flat spot and a nasty bend at the end near the fitting.

They replied and said there had been a mistake and they had accidently been put back on the shelf and dispatched to me and that they'd get a new set sent out ASAP

I told the garage I'd have them tuesday and they could take the car and as soon as I had the hoses I'd bring them down.
I've waited untill today for them to be delivered, so took them down this morn to garage.
I get a phonecall this afternoon to say the front hoses are too short and on full-lock the ends are being pulled out :bad-words:

The fronts are the same length as the rears which doesn't seem right to me?

When I got the first set I wondered then why would they have been returned, I'm wondering if they had also been returned as they were too short?

I'm pretty gutted and I'm thinking about getting Goodridge instead as I don't want to wait for another set to find that their wrong as well

Just thought I'd add my 2pence worth

Hi mate, I have just had my hel lines changed because they were too short, and the unions were split. This how stretched they were on full lock.

The ones that are on there now are a bit longer and the correct length for the ep3. This isn't full lock but you can see they are longer. On full lock there is still plenty of slack now.

It turns out that some kits were made up with the wrong length front hoses at the suppliers and shipped out to distributors, Stevie at eightspeed did tell me what the lengths were that were on my car and what the correct length should be but I can't remember what he said...ring him mate and he'll sort you out.

Don't let it put you off, they are a great product and in the correct length work perfectly.

Thanks for the boost in confidence newan. I'm planning to pick up a few bits from the motor factors tomorrow so I think I'll order some of these lines while I'm at it. Does anybody know what the correct lengths for the fronts are roughly? I would want to check them before I got them on the car.

Are there any how-tos for bleeding the lines on here? I guess it's just the usual job of keeping the brake reservoir topped up while pumping the pedal?

:badrazz:

mine aren't stretched!

mat.
ps.

FOR REFERENCE FOLKS, YOUR LINES SHOULD BE AT LEAST 52CM LONG FROM THE FITTING TO THE FITTING (THE BRAIDED PART) CHECK THEM BEFORE YOU PUT THEM ON.

Thanks to mat above, I remember what stevie said now...520mm is the length of my front lines now, they were 4something beforehand.

Bleeding is best with 2 people, depress pedal while releasing the bleed nipple, tighten bleed nipple and then release pedal, keep doing it until clear fluid comes through and keep fluid topped up...not sure which way round the car you are supposed to work though...it may be something like start at n/s front and work anti-clockwise through to o/s front.

Nice one mate I'll check them when they come in the post. I'm assuming the rears should be noticeably shorter anyway?

The bleeding sounds pretty straight forward, I've done a few cars before and to be honest I've always had someone else pumping the pedal while I watch the fluid. I think there are bleeding kits you can buy to do it alone but never tried one and not really sure if I'd trust one. I'll do a few searches to see if I can find the service manual...

I've always had Goodridge hoses on my cars, not had a problem.

For my civic I went for the purple Do Luck ones and I have to say there great, messures them up with a mates Hel ones and there abit longer so must be for a reason, also the ends are rapped so they cant pull away easliy.

ftr, there is no problem with the quality of the hel lines...they are excellent quality. This was simply a mistake at source sending out shorter than spec lines.
If you want some now, check with supplier the front lines are 520mm long. :salut:
