I've actually got the engine in a Lotus so need to know where on the engine it would be.

Besides- won't that be the chassis number on the chassis plate?

As you look at the engine from the front, it is on a casting on the front of the block on the right hand side below the inlet manifold. Unfortunately it is obscured from view and only really visible once things are removed.
It will be stamped with the engine code too.

Oh bugger - that's going be fun in the Lotus engine bay. Do you know what I'm going to have to remove to get to see it? (I hope you don't mean removing the manifold?
