Can't think how this could be a bit sketchy, this is how Honda recommend/designed to lift! Not like there is a lot of weight on the back of a civic.

I like to give my arches a bit of a snow foam before getting the brush to them, helps to lift most of the heavy soiled dirt.
i think he means due to the shape of the towing eye / shape of the platform on the jack, doesn't look like it would provide a stable lift... i assume that's what he means.

i debated it when my hoses were fitted, but it did look a bit sketchy!!

nice to know it can be used though, i didn't realise it was an actual jacking point!!

mat.
It will be stable as long as the front wheels are on firm ground i would have thought,

This is how the manual reads

1. Set the parking brake

2. Block the wheels that are not being lifted

3.When lifting the rear of the vehicle put the gearshift lever in reverse

4. Jack the vehicle high enough to fit safety stands

5. Position the safety stands under the support points and adjust thm so the vehicle will level

6. Lower the vehical onto the stands

Also don't use the jack that came with the car to lift the front or rear. it's not designed to do this.

Quick question - where do you get most of your cleaning products? I notice Halfords sell a range of Meguires kit but they don't seem fairly priced to say the least. Is there a good mail order website?

Cheers
this is where most of us go mate http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk

I only have a small 2 tonne jack and it won't lift the car high enough on that point to get the axle stands underneath, unless you blocked the jack up about 8", not a great idea that...if you had a large trolley jack it would probably be ok, but with the jack and stands I have it is not. And as matt said, the platform on the jack is flat and the tow eye is round, so when you pivot the entire weight of the rear of the car on a central point..round tow eye on a flat surface....you can guess the rest right..?
By all means follow the manual, but I find my way far quicker, more stable, safer and easier...

Yep, thats where I get my stuff...

So have you taken out the stuff that 'lines' the wheel arches? Does this allow more spray into the engine bay?
The pre-facelift doesn't have the carpet arch linings mate, the front arches are how they came from the factory

NN has inspired me to do this at the weekend. My excuse is that car is too low for a jack but your block of wood technique has now ruined that excuse.

Need to paint my hubs with the slver Hammerite I bought months ago. Might take pics for this thread and show off my Do-Luck hoses, pure non stealth bright purpleness ftw.

please do matey, a wheel arch specific thread is what this site is missing... :salut:

O ryt, i have a low entry high lift jack which has a centre hole that located perfectly. As honda have designed the car to be lifted from the rear towing eye means i can have the rear end up and on stands in seconds. High lift jack is well worth the money (imho), and i even have to be carefull that the front bumper doesn't touch the ground.

OK, done this yesterday.

Here be an arch that's all crusty and manky (N&N cover your eyes, keep scrolling) -

Image

After a blast with the hose, I wasn't as pro as N&N. I used Autoglym engine bay and machine cleaner stuff and sprayed it to death and then rinsed it all out with the hose again. I then realised I didn't have WD40 so nipped to Asda in the girls Astra which has shocking brakes btw. Got WD40 and sprayed Mr coily to death with that -

Image

Image

I also had silver Hammerite so wanted to paint my hubs and that, so I gave that a go. My painting skills are pretty naff though, but I think I done OK. Also didn't have red paint to re-do calipers which annoyed me -

Waiting on paint dry I also gave my wheels a proper cleaning just using Megs stuff. I would polish them and seal them, but they weren't looked after by previous owner and are corroded to death and need a re-furb. When I get them re-furbed I willl look after them like they are my babies.

I should have took pics once I had used the brakes and they weren't orange from the water  And I also scraped front splitter coming out girls driveway

Cheers for guide again mate, and also for passing your OCD for this onto me, everytime I wash my car I am going want to do this now :badrazz:

Yeah, I have bugger all for working on the car. Use the wee emergency jack to get it high enough to put a proper jack under it. So I was working 1 wheel at a time with 2 jacks holding the car up. It took me absolute ages to do is this way but still got it all done in the day and had nothing else to be getting on with anyway.

Yeah, my girlfriends dad had a decent jack, so I used that AND the Honda emergency jack. I wouldn't just trust the Honda one on it's own like.

There's plenty other stuff you could use to do it rather than the Megs stuff, but it probs ain't as good like N&N think he said he's tried a few and that was best.

Once you get all the paint on that you want to do, get some of that meguairs all purpose cleaner as in my original post. Once you have thoroughly cleaned with that and then dressed the arches with something....you will notice a huge difference the next time you clean them, a quick blast with the cleaner and then rinse and it will be perfectly clean again. (and don't forgte the brushes to agitate the cleaner with, it foams up slightly you see, I don't see any brushes in your pics...tell me you scrubbed.)

Look at mine just after the rinse...

Image

Once you get it to this standard, each time you clean them..(and I only do mine every month or 3)..it literally takes 5-10mins once the wheel is off. :salut:
