Not much been going on recently. A few weeks back my oil cooler decided to shît itself as I was turning up to my new work. So great first impression there! Had to disconnect the sandwich plate and cable tie it down onto the subframe as I needed the car to run while I wait for a new oil cooler.
Unsure of what caused the leak, didn't appear to have any stone damage. Was going to send it back to see if I could claim warranty as it's less than a year old but it's been thrown away. Never mind! Oil light never came on and when I checked it was around the min mark so no damage should of been done to the engine.
As a precaution I picked up some mesh from B&Q to put in front of the oil cooler. Annoyingly I forgot to get some black paint to spray it so it looks a little odd currently. I'll whip the bumper back off soon and give it a quick spray

Hoping to pick up a cheap trade in at my new work. Sub £1k would be nice for a Mk4 Golf Tdi or similar. Then I'd be very tempted to strip the interior, cage and turn it into a more track focused car. Not sure if I'll get any track time in this year. May wait until next year for the next Nurburgring trip!

Where did you get the number ducts/scoops from. I have them on mine. Are they tidy around the edge where they meet the number?

Do you mean the fog light ducts? Yes they fit fine.

Mine are the same ones. I used countersunk screws to hold mine in as the ducting behind tries to push them out.

I'd get the shorter bolts in just in case you need them. I got them from Tegiwa but they're a genuine part so any Honda dealer will also be able to get them in.

Seany-ads wrote:Cheers lewis. What are the bolts called though, are They final drive bolts?
Final drive ring gear bolts. I did put up the part number a few pages back. Just give that to a Honda dealer/parts supplier and they should be able to sort you out.

Been a long time since I've updated this. There's nothing to report. Recent job change has added another 50-100 miles per week. So the poor car has just been a commuter and it's something that I really didn't want to do with it. Adding loads of miles and wearing out expensive brakes and tyres.
Luckily with my new job I can get hold of cheap trade ins. So I've got hold of one. MK5 Golf 140 GT. It's a little beaten and not very pretty. For a 2004 diesel it's only got 82k on the clock. Needs a few hundred quid spent on it but I picked it up for only £1400.
This means that I can turn the EP3 into a more track focused car! So eventually (probably after new year) I'm going to strip out, half cage, seats and harnesses, semi slick tyres and a few other bits and bobs... Probably whip the box back out and get a shorter final drive.
Progress picture of the new daily.

Just Halfords advanced one. Bit of a touch as well, £50 down to £20 in the Black Friday sales. Breathable, waterproof and uv protection

Took the car into work for a clean and general check over

Then I though I'd check the alignment and adjust. At my previous work we only had basic laser alignment equipment. Now working for a stealer dealer we've got a hunter system.

Everything was there about... Kinda. Issue with the front being the car is too low for the sensors to see each other. So had to pull off the lower bumper and jack up the front ever so slightly. So checking and adjusting the front wasn't 100% accurate. But plans are to buy wider wheels, semi slick tyres and add more front negative camber. So it's going to need adjusting again, but may have to remove the front bumper so the front sensors can see each other. Ah well!

Fantastic build thread! Just read it from page 1. Really great driving round the 'ring. Very smooth style. Keep up the good work, the car is amazing. And please please please don't get an M3!

As said on Instagram Lewis, Incredible car this, I am also a convert from the VWs, all I've owned since passing my test 11 years ago. I fancied a change, torn between a few motors, i knew that EP3s were cheap, i didn't want to spend thousands on a car as a newly home owner my funds will go on the house. I typed into Youtube: EP3 Type-R, to see a bit more on them and your Nurburgring Nordschleife videos flooded up, it was this point your car decided it for me, and pursued for a Type-R. What i love about your car is that it's been modified correctly, and functionally for fast road and track purposes. Really inspires me to get on with mine now. Hopefully be able to look around this at a show in the coming months.

All the best.

Luke.
