Was very tempted for the Skunk2 DIC's but the lack of information, testing, results and reviews put me off. Didn't want to use my engine as a guinea pig knowing their previous 'DIC' killed standard valve train. I picked up some Spoon cams cheap as chips for the time being. Being Spoon they should have some decent resell value for all the fan boys out there. Maybe in the winter I'll pull the engine and build a stage 2 head and up the CR.... Or buy an M3

MeisterR's are complete but won't be here until next week. Good things come to those who wait... Hopefully!
I'll be at Trax (Chav fest) at Silverstone on the 19th July and managed to get some track time late in the day at 16:40. It'll be treated as a little test session to see what it goes and handles like on the new set up.

Well a good morning at Eurospec 2000. Car is all tuned and it's all sweet.
We done a run on the old tune for comparison. I think it pulled 228hp or there about. Had a mega rich spot in the midrange so not sure if this was something done last time it was mapped or the cams and intake have caused it.
Final figure was 241.5hp (around 201hp at the wheels). Considering the weather is a little hot and sticky, then taking into account their dyno reads around 10hp less than say TDi, pretty decent figures. As you can see it makes power right up to the redline. Romain also mentioned that he had to take out a fair bit of fuelling on the lower cam so I should expect to see better MPG when cruising.

Well I went to Goodwood Festival of Speed on Sunday so it was a good chance to give it a run.
Compared to before, the power delivery is far smoother. Vtec at around 4,000rpm (about the same as last time) comes in real smooth with just the engine note changing and the power starts to pick up, then at around 5,000rpm it really starts getting a move on. In the graph there's a slight drop in torque between 4-5k so that's what I'm feeling. Then it just keeps pulling all the way to the redline whereas before at 8,000rpm you could feel the car starting to hold back. It burbles and pops a little more on the over run which sounds nice.
In other news. These have finally turned up!

They don't look a great deal different from the Zeta-R. From the looks of it they use the same body and top mounts ect but there's numbers scribed on the bottom of the shocks along with an Allen key bolt poking out. I've already dismantled the rears for a lick of grease on the threads to prevent seizing. The covers are a nice touch and should help keeping them clean and lasting longer. From memory the bump stops are a different design and the seal looks different as well. Should get these on at the weekend and put to the test in a few weeks at Silverstone.

Those look really nice [THUMBS UP SIGN] is it Bengal for the torque to curve like that? Drop in mid range?

The way I see it is at 5k the level of torque is fairly normal. What's unusual is the high cam is able to make more torque at 4k which is low revs compared to most tuned cars that generally have vtec coming in around 5-5.5k

ah ok... I'm not very in the know with this sort of stuff. So would the torque curve be massively different had the vtec kicked in yo at a higher rpm?

It wouldn't be massively different, I'd probably lose that added torque and bhp in that area. I done a rough edit on paint to show what it would probably look like if vtec kicked in y0 later.

The new MeisterR GT1 coilovers are on!
Fairly straightforward swap as they're basically the same except the internals are different.
I've only done around 15 miles currently. Should have some free time tonight so may go for a little blast to see how they handle. But they're an improvement over the old Zeta-R. In the small journey I done, I noticed that it rides a lot more smoother and more composed over bumps. Also feels like there's less road noise. I'll do some further driving and probably start a new thread with a more in depth review.

Have you seen my review thread in the suspension bit?
They're far more comfortable and don't crash around as much. I'm at Silverstone Sunday for a 20 min track session so I'll report back then

Just read your review, nice one! Seems like they're awesome on the road especially for a coilover.must be the new type of valving jerrick was talking about.lets hope they shine on track then.i also spoke to jerrick about upping the spring rates and he also assured me that the selected spring rate will work perfect with this new valving system even running semi slicks.should be picking my car up on Monday.

Back from Trax at Silverstone. I've put a review update in the other thread I've started. In short they were amazing!
Managed to buy another session so had 2 20 min sessions. It was the short circuit so very easy to learn and pick up. First session was decent, found my self in some clear air and managed to catch and overtake a few cars. Second session I was caught in lots of traffic. People not moving over to the right to let you pass and just in general some terrible driving. But I expected it due to the nature of people this kind of show would attract. I really need to invest in some semi slicks. It was really hot in the afternoon and after a few laps the tyres were cooked. Also managed to get the hang of heel toe action which helped in the braking zones.
I've got some gopro footage of the 2 sessions which I'll get up in the next few days.

It was tragic. I was flashing my lights and beeping the horn at a few people where they wasn't moving over to the right on the pit straight. Then you see other people over taking on the right. Admittedly I did do this once, but an Audi TT went so deep into one corner he nearly went off the track so I just kept to the inside and carried on.
