I have a first world problem, my living room really only accommodates having my tv on the chimney breast above the fireplace, now my tv is 50" and the fireplace is 40" high, I'll need to place the centre speakers ontop of the fireplace and I plan to have the tv as close as possible without looking too silly, so were perhaps talking having the tv starting 50" high on the wall, is this too high do you reckon? A tilting bracket may help abit I guess

Oh and heats not an issue, the fire is one of them artificial flames with the option to have heat on or off

I don't think it will be all that High, 40" is low fireplace compared to the ones Ive seen. I'm guessing you could get the tv abit lower than 50" aswell?

Best way to work out is get the height of a TV stand from Next or somewhere...

Stand your TV on that, then push it backwards onto the wall.

Obviously depends how far away you're sat but on average that's ^ the best way to do it.

Middle of the screen should be at around eye level when you are seated

I made a cardboard cut out and placed it where it will go, it's actually not that bad if I'm honest, not much neck tilt either regardless if I'm sat on the sofa or on a chair abit closer when I'm gaming,remember it's not a high fireplace at 40" , It would be more ideal if it was at eye level but I don't have that option unless I remove the fireplace which I don't want to do. But yeah the tv will start at about 44-46" high, I'm undecided as to how good/bad it looks but I'm going for the best viewing experience I can achieve. I'm also undecided about a tilt bracket to angle it down a tad, for watching tv etc I wouldn't find it a problem, but how are they for gaming? May sound daft, it's just I've always had my tvs flat to the wall, I play alot of shooters and racing games so I'm unsure

Any neck tilt is too much for longer periods. It's not natural to look up.
Your eye line has a natural downwards pitch and when considering VDU's (or monitors to the rest of us) advice is that the top of the screen should align with the bridge of your nose. In reality, when considering a living room, some sets would look too low so Martin's suggestion of the middle is about right, imo.

no, I'd disagree, iphone 6+ owners can have high mounted tvs too. that bendy phone of theirs makes a very effective neck brace.
