Indeed. It's going the way of software now. Personally I think a Google has it in the bag though with the amount of information they have, they can serve it up when you need it and do some cool stuff with it.

I do like the dot case for the HTC one dude, this it's a really cool idea

I love modern technology and how easy it makes things. Just the other night:

Little HP server under the stairs automatically downloaded the newest HD episode of a show we watch
I got an email, which I read on my phone. While I was there I fired up my Plex app to see the synopsis of the episode
While still sat on the sofa, said to the wife shall we watch it? She said yep, so immediately put it on TV via Chromecast
Half way into the episode the wife is tired and wants to go to bed
Go upstairs, switch on bedroom TV, fire up Plex app on the TV, pick up episode where we left off

You just cannot do that with conventional TV!

(and all from a mix of ESXi, Windows, OpenMediaVault, Android, Chromecast, Samsung Apps)

$99 for the same thing basically. Apart from it can play a few games and has access to some other services. Not worth it imo, besides Google only just released the SDK for it so more apps will come in time - including games as the SDK is released now
