Hey guys, I'm from Wrexham so some people might see me around in that area and in the Hull area as I study there.

The CTR was bought on the 31/13/2013 all standard and owned by a High School head teacher used mostly on the motorways. It came with full service history all done at Honda with x2 new Bridgestone Potenza RE50a. The mileage then was 130,000 but since it's been looked after with all the paperwork, I snapped it up for a very good price.

The upgrades initially started with just the Gruppe-M, xenon and LED lights and I said to myself 'no more' as I was planning to buy a 350z after a year. This forum had provided many ideas for upgrades from performance to aesthetic upgrades and the modding soon spiraled out of control so it looks like the EP3 is here to stay for quite a while now.

I had intended to make a build thread since ownership but only gathered quite a lot of pictures and just didn't bother until now. So here are all the mods..

I.C.E. UPGRADES - FEBRUARY 2013

The very first major upgrade was the whole sound system as the stock sound system was sounded awful. It took a month to install, stripping out the car and wiring the whole system. The sound has improved ten-fold outperforming the wafer speakers. Punchy subtle bass, balanced mids and clear highs :-D

WHEEL, ROCKER COVER AND BRAKE CALPIER REFURB - JUNE 2013

The alloys were pretty much in good condition when the car was bought. During the unusual wintery weather in April 2013, the snow was around two inches deep on a very steep hill where I had to go down to get home. Whilst crawling down it, the car immediately lost its grip and began to slide. At this point I was obviously bricking it but managed to stop the car by using the curb to stop the car but scuffed the hell out of the passenger side alloys. It could of been a lot worse.

SUSPENSION UPGRADES - JUNE 2013

Got the car in at ABP Motorsport to install the JDM rear arb, new drop links, ABP Eibach Springs, camber arms and bolts with the FRSU. Didn't get to take a picture of all the goods to be put on the car but here is the graph of how off the settings were

PERFORMANCE UPGRADES - JULY 2013

The performance upgrades were bought over a five month period through the CTRO forum. The very first performance upgrade was the Gruppe-M in March. This was installed by Martin (dentman) as I had booked in for a dent to be pulled out on the bonnet so I thought why not get him to install it with one of his tidy scuttle panels as he knows what he is doing. Two months later, Robs (R8BYB) unsilenced b-pipes came through the post and was installed straight away at a local garage in Hull.

All performance parts were installed by Stevie and ‘Grandad’ at Grinspeed in July 2013 and took seven hours. All the parts installed were: DC Sports header, engine energy insert poly mounts, RBC inlet manifold, S90 throttle body, gearbox insert poly mounts, refit Gruppe-M with carbon scuttle and a full oil service. Although it took the good part of half a day, I was astounded by the attention to detail and efficiency of the work carried out by Stevie and ‘Granddad’. After the works, car was driven like a nun back home to Wrexham, 62 miles away, keeping the revs below 3000rpm.

The K100 ECU mapping was booked for the following day at TDI North so another 35 mile trip up north to Warrington, again driving like a nun. All the work was mainly carried out by Paul and the sound it produced on the rollers was astoundingly gratifyingly good; being very loud and raspy, just how a V-TEC engine should sound. Prior to the mapping, the TDI North mechanic and research on the net had indicated that I should expect around 235bhp. When I was shown the printout of the power run, I was like :-D The car on power performance upgrades is complete, for now.. I’ll let the pictures do all the talking...

The RBC manifold was sprayed black but pictures were unfortunately not taken of the spraying process but it can be seen in the complete work of the engine bayImage

Really, really pleased with the outcome as I had been driving an EP2 for 4 years prior to owning this. All the bolt on mods now done, the powers there and handles pretty well, could well do with an LSD but funds are pretty low at the moment

Future Modifications
  • MFactory Helical LSD
    MFactory Carbon Syncros
    DS2500 Front and Rear Pads
    Goodrige Braided Hoses
    Motul RBF 600 Brake Fluid
    Tegiwa Brake Master Cylinder
J's Racing Front Upper Strut Brace
    Brens Rocker Cover
    Honda Jazz Washers
    Muteki Red Wheel Nuts
    Seibon Mugen Spoiler
    Mugen Front Lip Spoiler
Recaro Premier Edition or JDM seats

Any recommendations or suggestions for improvements?

Good right up mate,I have the exact same rocker cover on my dc5 brencivic done for me.
As always from tdi good power figures,my dc5 was tuned at eurospec with
Rbc
3" injen intake
3" solid fab exhaust (now regu06r)
Dc sports manifold
Mine achieved 238.5 bhp and 177 torques which I'm more than happy with.
I'm fitting a new teg m this week just for some engine bling and will be going back for a remap in the next month or 2. I'm expecting around 230 ish with not having the 3" solid fab exhaust. Your future mod of carbon syncros is one of my future mods too.
Good build there so far keep up the good work

Ben's got it right there. Everyone that has heard the car drive past says it sounds odd but I quite like it.
If I can remember, Paul at TDI said that the OEM backbox should be fine up to around 300bhp or was it 250bhp? Not sure but the power output is below those figures anyway, plus I quite like the looks of OEM.
I'll try and get video of a standstill and a drive-by when it stops raining and will get some more up to date photos at the end of this month as I've just bought some stuff for the car and left my camera at Uni.

Sounded nice on that meet Ed, very raspy in the high revs
Not sure how long the baffles will last in the backbox but I totally agree the OEM backbox looks great [smilie=karls_thumb.gif]
