Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to get parking sensors fitted into an 08 FN2 Civic type R? No navigation radio so it would have to be of the audible variety. I would rather not lose my warrenty aswell so is there a stock option i could have retrofitted?

There is the standard Honda option that can be fitted probably for a few hundered £ (phone your dealer to get a price). But why not venture into a double din headunit and reverse camera. Double din makes the dash look ace too. Civinfo has a few members with reverse cameras for sale.

Any idea on price for the standard Honda option?
Aren't you reliant on the original radio for temperature readings or something like that?
Is it a fairly straight forward ordeal to get the steering wheel controls working?
How does it affect the warranty?

Essentially the problem is i have found a really nice condition 08 model civic but i want to be able to have bluetooth, parking sensors and USB without trashing my 1 year warranty from the dealer.

Even on new cars this was a dealer fit option, they charge around £200 IIRC (I was quoted this in 2009). Make sure you ask for the slim colour coded version as there was an older specification which was neither of those (it might not even have been a Honda product).

If you want to do it yourself the wiring is all in place and accessable from the boot. Take the bumper off and there are four marks moulded into the bumper where to cut to get them equal (circle with a cross in).

Wow that is a good guide thanks a lot. Would the cables and everything still be there on the 08 model?

If im honest i think i would still sway towards getting it fitted at Honda :/

The wiring will be there on all models. You'd be surprised how much wiring goes into cars 'just in case' options are requested. So much easier and cheaper to get it all in on the production line.

Great thanks!
I have asked the dealer im buying it from how much it would cost to get parking sensors, bluetooth and Aux/USB input retro-fitted so i will see what he comes back with. I have also asked about how a 3rd party system would affect my warranty.

The AUX/USB/12v in the arm rest would be mega bucks to retrofit because it requires the replacement of the whole armrest section of the centre console.

Bluetooth is easy to fit. You can install a Parrot MKi9200 in a few hours on your drive. Installing the Parrot gives you additional audio input options too (iPhone/iPod and USB).
Guide here: http://civictype-r.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... 24&start=0
Product here: http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands ... ot-mki9200

Neither should effect the warranty but if the dealer claimed it would then it would only be the parts involved not the whole thing. For example, adding parking sensors would not result in a claim being declared void on your suspension.

I looked into the parrot but the problem i have with it is that it wouldnt use the standard steering wheel controls, its another thing mounted on the dash ruining the look and it uses its own amps which are a bit pants (4 x 20w). If any honda standard fitting would be expensive, I think i would probably go the xcarlink or denison bluetooth route and just clip my phone onto the vents using a brodit system.

The idea of a full integrated dual din system is quite appealing though.

I would probably want to change the speakers aswell from what i have been reading. WRG to the warranty, are they so strict with it that if i changed the speakers they would void the warrenty on the electric windows and/or any rust that could develop? Just trying to get my head around where they draw the line.

If you get the dealer retrofit Bluetooth installed you won't get steering wheel controls. They are only factory fit with the HFT/Nav option. The dealer option has controls mounted on the drivers side A-pillar.
The parrot is plugged into the headunit, it uses the standard audio equipment. It's a handsfree telephone, not a surround sound system and the quality is limited to that of the incoming call.

If you want to go double DIN then you need to remember to factor in the cost of the new dash parts.

They would have a hard time showing that new speakers caused rust  The dealer would need to be a proper c**t to even suggest that. They might accuse you of damaging wiring in the door but that would be an easy fix and unlikely to cause failure of a part.
There is always an element of risk when altering the car. You buy your parts and make your choice [smilie=karls_thumb.gif] All parts installed by your dealer will come with a 12 month warranty.

Hmmm might skip past that then

Im a bit confused, are you telling me it uses the Headunits amps usually? The reviews i have seen suggest that the Parrot bypasses your car hifi therefore when you use the additional audio inputs built into it you will be using the parrot amps?

From what i have read it looks like dash parts are about £200, stereo is likely to cost me £200-300 (dont need navigation, would just use google nav) and then any cradles and stuff so that i dont lose functionality of the steering wheel controls is about £50. Fitting on top of that, about £200?
If those estimates are correct im probably looking at £700-800 total?

Like i said, just trying tio figure out where the line is.

Starting to feel like its probably better discussing this in a dedicated ICE thread but many thanks for all the advice :D

I got a reply back from the dealer:

Parking sensors £399 fitted
Bluetooth £349 fitted
We don't retro fit USB points.

Seems expensive :/

I think you need to all a few other dealers for more prices [smilie=karls_thumb.gif]
The cost of parking sensors hasn't doubled in three years.

Stockport Honda are decent and close to you. Which dealer are you looking to buy the car from?
Gilder Honda in Sheffield have always looked after me well.

Stockton as in Benfield? Thats who is giving me the quote as thats where im supposed to be picking the car up from :vconf:

Im actually going to have the car down south in maidenhead, so there are a few other options locally. Im not really sure what im doing when it comes to this stuff, do i just look for any honda dealer or are there specific ones for this stuff?

Swansway Honda in Stockport is the one I was talking about.

If your in Maidenhead you're a stone through from a few dealers. I'd give them all a call.
Maidenhead Honda: 01628 829071
Johnsons Honda Slough: 01753 575 566
Bracknell Honda: 01344 894694

Great, once again thank you very much.

I might start up a proper ICE thread tonight aswell.

That page is for the FL Civic (2012-) rather than FK/FN Civic (2006-2011). I'd hope the old one would be a little cheaper.

There is a fair bit on FN2 ICE listed so have a search first.

We used to have a very good trader on here, Dalco Audio but he sold the business and the new owners dropped the audio side of the company. Watch here for a good bit of information:

This is an archive of his old traders section.

Unfortunately it doesnt seem to be cheaper at all.

Maidenhead all in cost was £568 (sensors are £323+VAT)
I didnt get a proper quote from slough because they put the price of the sensors just below £400
Waiting to hear back from Bracknell but im not expecting great results.

At those kind of prices it almost makes more sense to fit a better head unit with a parking camera i reckon?

I will of course be looking through all the information before i post anything, will be more of a 'am i on the right lines' and 'what is your opinion on' kind of thread.
