Go go juice and lubrication.

Firstly, apologies if this has been covered.

I have used Mobil 1 0w40 up until now and I have a service coming up next month and was wondering whether it's OK to move to a 5w40 Silkolene? (as this is what you rate as the best)

Also, what do you advise for the gearbox?

thanks,

Aidan

Hi Aidan

Yes, the Silkolene/Fuchs is a step up from the Mobil, it's a very good choice.

You need an MTF for the gearbox and I would go with the Redline MTL, Amsoil MTF or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers EP 75w-80 is a good cheaper alternative

Hello mate, I'm after a couple of recomendations please as I need to service both my cars.

I'm after oil and a filter for my 2003 CTR and the same for my 2003 Seat Leon Cupra TDI it's a Pd150 engine.

I noticed your doing a two for £79 or something on the pro S so could I use this in both cars or would you recomend something else like the 5/30 and 10/40TD Castrol Edge?

Cheers!

Hi

Technically, you need an oil that meets the VW 505.01 spec for the Leon, but Guy (the original Oilman) has the same car as you and he's been using the Pro S 5w-40 for a couple of years with no problems. Although it doesn't officially meet the VW specs, unofficially it way exceeds them.

Here's the filter for the Seat http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-7042-oil-fi ... 01100.aspx and for the CTR http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-1491-hamp-s ... lters.aspx

Thanks for that,

So does the 10/40TD edge not meet spec for the cupra then?

I take it the 5/40 is fine for the CTR?

I'm going to use 10w40 next time, I'm not very confident in these thinner oils anymore, there seems to be way more oil being used since all this fancy spec oil came in. The K20 is a relatively old engine and am 100% confident that 10w40 would use much less oil in between services.

Hi

I would say a good 5w-40 would probably be the way to go, unless you are getting high (over 125C) oil temps, then a 10w-50 is the best choice.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. They are all really good oils and up to dealing with the harsh conditions of trackdays.

The problem with the site look up is that it was done based on a standard database, ie what Honda would suggest. There are a few things in it that Guy and I don't agree with, so we are going to have a new look up guide as the person who programmed the one on the site now made a bit of a mess (we can't really adjust it) and he's left us.

I would go for a 5w-40 as it get's consumed at a slower rate if you use VTEC, but a 0w-30 is also fine for lubricating the engine.
