I fitted my Mocal/Setrab oil cooler. This took weeeeeeeeeeks!!! :bad-words: I got the kit from a tuning company on Ebay. It came with a Mocal thermostatic plate, braided hoses, a 25 row Setrab rad and all the fixings and brackets needed. :-D Its a good bit of kit, and half what some tuning companies are charging for the same kit. :shock:
I didn't want to run 2 sandwich plates, so i removed the Defi plate. This meant i had to find other take off's for the sensors, which caused a total baw ache!! :evil: I started with the plan to tee off the oil pressure switch like this.....

I had to drill out the cross slightly for the fat temp sensor to fit down, only to find i couldn't turn the cross into the block as it fouled something. Grrrrrr!! :bad-words:
So drunk 1 night lying under it i had a brain wave...... How handy would it be to take the temp sensor off the sump plug!!! :-D Then i could use this wee chappy (Left of the pic below) which i discovered, and it just about worked, but it was too fat and pushed the braided oil lines onto the red hot exhaust manifold. :roll:
I also found a company who made a tapped sump plug..... but it was made of brass...... :-| (Its all i could find)

Then i discovered the pressure adaptor was too fat, and when i lightly tightened the sump plug it snapped...... in the sump!!! :bad-words:

I was raging!!! I spent the next half hour digging it out with a screwdriver chapped in it. So wasted a week waiting on useless parts!!
Undeterred, i found a company that done them in stainless steel. What a bit of machining it was aswell.

I then ordered a remote pressure kit which was a lot thinner than the adaptor i found, but done the same job. This all taking about a week delivery each item i ordered. So the car had now been sitting in the garage on axle stands for about 3 weeks!!

Soooooooooo, i finally got it fitted and everything back together. Now it looks like this....... :cool:

Wow seemed like a right ballache you had with it, but all worth it. Looks pretty neat.
Why couldn't you use a sandwich plate inbetween the oil filter and block? I have a sandwich plate which you can take 4 feeds from, i only use one of them for the oil feed line for turbo, and other three are just blocked off. Or for oil cooler do you need a differnt feed from somewhere else?

Be interesting to know what sort of temps you'r running now, and what were before the cooler? :thumbup:

Good work gus :thumbup: I know what you mean about the room by the oem pressure sensor, it's really tight because of the rigid cooler lines being in the way. Going to get mine all fitted on Sunday in my new garage :-D

That was the main reason i just had the sumped tapped at the same time as they did the oil return for the turbo, just bolt the temp sensor straight into the sump

Tuf - It was a total nightmare dude!! :lol: I didn't want to run 2 sandwich plates, so the only plates i could find that had the cooler and sensor take off's were non-thermostatic. I really wanted to run a thermostatic plate so it wouldn't over cool the oil when driving on the road.
Normal driving at 70mph on the motorway its down at 60-70 degree's, fast road driving its upto 80-85 degree's. Still unsure on track yet. :thumbup:

Your temps seem spot on, mine seem to constantly seem to sit at 95'C....

Can we not overcome the oil temp issue by using a slightly different viscosity oil to run better at those higher temps? Or at those temps is there engine components like seals/rings/gaskets at risk?

To get a efficient set-up, you can log your running temps now, then finding and using an oil which would be at the ideal viscosity at those temps.

Good stuff, Take little notebook or sheet of paper and make some notes on temps and work out the average temp :thumbup: Some might think its a bit OTT making notes of oil temp, but it would be good to know whats happening in your engine, and what state your oil/oil protection is at certain temps.

No, the OEM oil cooler is tiny. The temps raise way above 100 degree's while on track, so the oil is thinner and not protecting your engine as well. I sen it hit 132 degree's a few times!! :shock: So the oil cooler does exactly as it says, it cools the oil to a safe 80 - 100 degree's. :thumbup: I've been meaning to fit 1 for ages, just eventually got round to it. :oops:

I finally got my Earl's braided clutch hose fitted!! :-D What a b@stard to bleed!! Took over and hour to bleed through. :bad-words:

What times were you getting round knocky - did you manage to get any?
Also what do you reckon to those damn kerbs? They slowed me down a little at first but after a few laps i started to quite
enjoy the challenge of maintaining speed but not hitting them :lol:
