doesn't help as the exterior nobs for heater/fan/direction wont come off. The best way to get the OEM head unit screw off is to use a spanner, and the ONLY way to get the storage thing out is to use a cross head screwdriver that has a right angle bend to it, so you can get to it with the black heater thing in the way. Luckily I have neighbours with decent tools!
The heater knobs just pull of just like any other knob, then you can just unscrew the three gold screws that hold the whole heater control unit on to the console. Then you can just unscrew the storage box below the headunit. Unscrewing the tiny silver screws on the black section of the heater unit is not the way to go!
Also, with the two bolts holding the whole top section of the console on - be sure not to use loose sockets on the screwdriver as they can easily fall off and get lost forever...
