What diff do Saxo's come with?

You want to spend £1,000 on the car + upto £3,800 in parts. That give it nice seats, brakes, and about 150bhp? Dude you could buy either a EK9 or DC2 for that, and both would muller the sh-t out of a 150bhp Saxo on track once you strip either out.

Mark is on about possibly selling his already prepped DC2. I know what I would do :salut:

A good argument but insurance on both of those isnt cheap. Plus you would get the EK9/DC2 and then end up spending £5k plus on those doing similar mods.

Pre cage and bits my car was 760kg! thats 202 bhp/ton

Starting from scratch and doing it properly isn't cheap, I know

With hindsight, I'd have liked one finished or at least started (with some decent parts already fitted).

Track preparing doesn't come cheap. Cage/seat/harness installs for example, if you want them done properly, take a long time.

Saxos come with regular open diffs by the way, Mart

Problem for me; Greenlight won't touch a VTS.

Find a better insurer/broker

To be fair to Greenlight, the Saxo driver often lives up to their stereotype

In reality mate, if I get one with breathing mods; that saves £650-750. Cams another £500. For £1000 I'd get that. Then, all parts costed are new, doing the same as I always do and trawl forums/eBay I'd save a wedge on that too.

£3800 is a high estimate, worst case.

I'm still open to other cars but keep coming back to a Paxo due to repair costs, mod costs and ease of working on it. I'd be aiming for next summer to have it fully ready, biding my time for the right car. :bigthumb:

Edit: Just looked and over £300 of my budget is for R888's and fitting.

They're very cheap to insure the Meg, far cheaper than others so the trade off's probably worth it.

Engine
Standard block/internals
Magnex decat
Magnex cat-back and back box
KnN panel filter with reworked standard airbox
x-sport gear linkages

Suspension
Bilstein Sprintlines allround
Faulkner (kam racing) 155lb/ft 35mm springs
Powerflex ARB bushes
Powerflex rear beam bushes
Refurbed beam
24mm rear ARB
Sparco upper + lower braces
New wishbones and topmounts

Brakes
283mm setup from a 206 gti180
std discs and pads
Goodridge braided hoses all round

Wheels and tyres
Standard VTS Speedline wheels
Goodyear Eagle F1s all round

That was the spec i had on my vts. Went really well, and theyre all bolt on bits.

The 106 Rallye that Steve posted on page 2 is a very capable car. I passengered to the ring in it last summer, and it impressive how many bigger cars a gti/vts can show up. Simple suspension, brakes, a lsd and R888's and you'll be laughing.

:laughabove: Very true. I was watching an onboard video of a guy the other day who had filmed himself in his "500bhp" Evo going around Castle Combe on a trackday. He wasn't a good driver :badrazz: , but the car was powerful and was very quick I thought on the straights, .......that was until a guy in a VTS went flying past him on the straight going into Avon Rise. Little car ftw

i got some quotes today, big man, as i thought lets give it a go as that would stop me buying a saxo etc once the quotes came in at 2k as 0 no claims to use on a second car.

VTS was a no,

but guess what, 0 no claims a saxo VTR came in at £450, i think we have a new car coming.

The plans for new bodykit for the beemer is being replaced with a little track day tool, going to speak to chris knott tomorrow though as last time adrian flux gave me a big discount as they said i can only use one car at a time etc and they allowed roll cage, will see what Cknott say now. My quote was with Elephant of all people.

VTR's are group 7, VTS's are group 14.

It's why I got a VTR instead of a VTS.

7 insurance groups and double the money for 8v's!!

Looking at an XSi with a VTS engine at the weekend. Super cheap, few worthy upgrades and only 4 miles from my door. :cooldude:

Suppose if all else fails, buy a VTR and run that for a year then drop a VTS engine in it over the winter. They can be had with loom and box for £200...while it's all out, it'd be rude not to put an LSD in.
