On my current tyres I don't think you'll be blown away TBH.

Well get that sh-t changed. Couple of RS2's would see you right.
I've traded a drive of Marks car for mine. Don't see why we can't swap. Unless you drive like a nutter

They're weird buddy; good tires, haven't got them to let go in any condition but just don't inspire confidence. I can't fathom it. RS2's will go on when I change the V12's on the back and weather's a bit better.

No, course not...well, not in my car.

We can do though mate. :salut: See how the day pans out.

VTR for sale at the minute, £750 fully caged and stripped but they're a little gutless. no?

I don;t knwo it depends what your using it for really. There seems to be two types of trackday goers at the moment. there are those who turn up in a tricked out turbo'd jp monster with 550bhp and all the power they could ask for who blitz on the straights and are slow and uncontrolled through the corners, Then you see them very same cars being chased by a little Saxo VTR or 1.6 Fiesta Si which has had sensbible handling mods done. I would say start on something lower powered which is easily upgradable ( et voila the saxo VTR) leanr to drive that and then make it better as you go on. The thing of stripping yourself too gives you much more initmate knowledge of the car. Saxo's are so simple anyway, the last of the 80's style hatch build, no electric gubbins to worry about.

In fact just go get a saxo, do it now or your going to get me going through bloody ebay again dreaming of what i would do to one.

But remember to keep it sensible. when you get one, strip it service it and stick a cage in it. Then your good to go.

If you get a chance read this brilliant track build, guy called Ian of the Seatcupra.net forum. His was a little Arosa 1.4 that was dsigned for taking tot he ring, he was bloody quick in it, shame it met a grizzly end, but it shows that the safety gear he had in the car saved his life, have a look, for inspiration.

PS how easy is it to get a K20 in a saxo, i've seen one with the k20 in the rear of a saxo but not front??????

heres that thread

The simplicity is exactly what I want a Saxo for. Barn door engineering.

I don't mind being slow on the straights so long as it's good in the corners and I can learn to carry speed. Don't want the constant cat and mouse of getting blasted in straights only to be held up in the corners by said Skybarge.

Just done a quick tot up (love teh spreadsheets  ) based on using all new parts from a retailer and I'll be looking at £1400 for the initial build...I could get this under £1000 with eBay and forums pretty easily. :salut: This is based on a completely standard car...of which there aren't many.

Total build after winter 2011/12 strip and betterment is looking to be £3500 + car. Probably a lot less as it's likely I'll be purchasing one with at least some mods and mostly second hand parts where I can.

I like it. And 205 GTI speedlines FTW. Haha. You got good taste. ;)

Saxo/106's are good because of how cheap the parts are. Mine needed a driveshaft the other week. £35 + vat for a new one. I was gobsmacked.

That's exactly why I'm going for one.

If I blow and engine it'll be a case of rummaging down the sofa for loose change to replace it.

The TU5 J4/JP4 is an outstanding engine. Full of life, extremely strong and the most breathing responsive i have ever come across.

£500 can see you over 20% increase in power!

They pop flames like a good 'n aswell :bigthumb:

I considered this but by the time you've bought a trailer, tow bar and taken your test, that's close to £2000.

You could of course by a second hand car with a tow bar and borrow/rent a trailer but you've still to pass the test and possibly have lessons. I looked into it and IIRC it was circa £500 for a day of lessons and the test.

I have a car with towbar, and have a towing license thingy so I'm slightly biased..

My DC2 is SORN on private property so the new law is not applicable. Come April, I'll tax and insure it for 6 months and be legal.

For a track car you are building yourself it really needs to be insured otherwise you'll end up breaking the law through temptation...

Everytime you fit a part, everytime someone says "i bet thats fun", everytime you've been driving a slow car all day....

It's mainly I couldn't just insure it to drive to the track under the new law.

How do you go about insurance? Insure for a year then cancel or have you found a company that does 6 months?

My broker allows cars to be added and removed from my policy. I think the DC2 was £40 per month to add as a second car so an additional £240 for 6 months of cover.
