Hi Oilman,
I am going to get my first oil change done shortly and as advised I'm going to go for a 5w/40 fully synthetic brand for my CTR. My question is because my car has 107,000+ miles on it should I be wary in regards to this oil? I was going to try and get Silkolene 5w/40 Pro S if my local garage can get it. The car runs very well at the moment, not smoking, burning too much oil or anything negative btw
Thanks for your attention, Gareth

Hi Gareth

The Pro S 5w-40 is a good oil for your car. We've got an offer that's just started on it (I very much dout your garage will have it, even plenty of tuners don't stock anything as good as that).

Doh!!

Offer kicked in 2 days after I ordered - typical that I would miss out on this!!

Anyway CTR is going to honda for a service on Tuesday, would you recommend using an engine oil flush before they change the old oil out?

Thanks,Callum

I'm guessing you bought the oil as part of the January blowout offer, that would have made it £43 per 5L, rather than £47.79, so it was reduced anyway.

There is no need to flush the engine and flushing can be harmful. What can happen is the flush can loosen harmless deposits in the engine, but then not remove them. Your new oil goes in and after it gets warm and is flowing nicely, the bits which are loosened come off into the oil, so you end up with hard bits floating around in your oil - the last thing you want. If you really want to flush the oil system, the best thing you can do is drain out the oil that is in there, put in some basic mineral oil and run the car for 15 minutes to an hour so the oil gets nice and warm. After running it, drain out the mineral oil and put in the correct oil.

My mate and mechanic has gave me a price for a service, he said he can get me 5 litres of miller oil 5w-40 for £60, but I said I may supply my own oil.

How do you rate miller oils? He said they are recommended for high performance cars and his supplier of the oil runs a supercharged CTR and thats what he uses...

Oilman just a quicky..

Im after some brake fluid as im going to flush through the old stuff..

What would you recommend for a 2004 ep3?

I've heard some people say DOT4 where others say DOT5.1

Would this be suitable for general everyday driving with the spirited drive here and there?
Motul DOT 5.1 brake fluid - long life 100% synthetic

Also how much would I need to completely flush through the existing stuff?

steviegeetee wrote:Thanks, would you recommend the millers cfs over fuchs Titan? The miller website oil advisor recommended me miller xfs? Is there much difference? If there isn't much in it I might go for the Fuchs as you have the offer on at the moment I believe.

I'd recommend the CFS over the Titan Supersyn, but out of the CFS and Fuchs Pro S, there's nothing in it. I'd go with the Pro S due to the offer.

When you register on the website, there is a dropdown menu of the clubs we support. Select CTR.co.uk from there, put your username or member number in the next box and then complete the registration. When you look at the site then, you should see the members prices above the normal prices. You pay the members prices, which include the 10% discount.

Cheers
