No, its just to with the viscosity. The 5w oil should burn a little less then a 0w oil.

Halo mr Oilman!In our country you can not buy oil per liter,I found in the USA Honda MTF..Is this the Honda MTF 3 oil???Was introduced in 2006..part num is 08798-9031

You said that the initial fill in factory for Type-R FN2 is Fuchs 0w-20? Are you totally sure?
I'm asking this because all Honda oils are made by TOTAL, so why should Honda use another brand for the 1st fill?

Secondly, I'll have to change oil after 1 month and I'm not sure what to put in. Here in Romania I find easily Motul 8100 0w-30, Castrol Edge 0w-30, but I really wonder what had changed in the engine in order that Honda changed their recommendation (In EP3 they recommended 5W-40).
Still don't know what to use...

Yes, Fuchs factory fill Hondas, the oils Honda sells doesn't really have anything to do with the factory fill. They also fill factory fill BMW, even though BMW always sell Mobil and Castrol in their dealerships.

The 0w-30 or 5w-40 are both fine for the car, Hondas aren't overly fussy. Honda changed the recommendation, I think, just to do the best for fuel economy. The car can run on anything from a 0w-20 to 10w-40 without any problems although 0w-30, 5w-30, 0w-40 or 5w-40 are the ones I'd go for for the best all-round protection.

Hello Oilman! New here....proud owner of an FN2 2008 (57) CTR. Question.....i have 3 litres of Mazda Dexelia 5w-30w left over from my beloved RX8......Honda gave me a free Castrol for topping up....do you think it's ok to use the Dexelia in the CTR (not sure of composition though' i think it's a great oil) and can i mix with what's in there (stock Honda service, not sure what they used...)

The 5w30 is fine to use in a CTR and will mix with any other.

Yes the Dexelia is a group III synthetic, so 100% mineral base just highly refined. If you have it you might as well use it up

Ok, I finally took one liter of Motul X-lite 0W-30 to fill up, in December the car will have the first 1 year inspection and I'll change the oil only with the above mentioned Motul.

I want to change the gearbox oil on my FD2.There is occasionally a slight reluctance to go into third so i dont want to skimp on this.Im thinking of either the Amsoil or the Redline, which would be more suitable in your opinion?

That is a pretty even match. Amsoil is the most popular for Hondas, but Redline are usually the best at sorting out minor gear issues. I'd probably go for the Redline, but either may fix it.

5w-50s are a bit odd. Because they cover such a large viscosity gap, they contain a lot of additives and those additives are broken down fairly quickly, leaving the oil as a 5w-40 or 10w-40. 5w-50s also tend to be fairly expensive for what they are. Personally I'd go for a 5w-40 in the first place.
