I was about to order the input shaft bearings (they said there are 4 bearings) at Honda delaer when i asked the guys to check the service history of the car and found out that the previous owner changed already one of the inputshaft bearings. Also the mechanic chief said he remembers that they checked the gearbox and changed everything what was needed and there is no point to change the bearings.
So, i think there is no issue and i;m just trying to find one  Right now i gave up about changing any bearings and will do it only if it starts to get worse.

@Marxx: you still have the sound after all the changes you've done? if yes then that's it, it's EP3 natural sound

@ste22s: good luck mate!!! maybe for you changing the bearings will have effect

I had this noise also, I have fitted es engine mount inserts and powerflex gearbox mount insert and noise gone! I guess it has something to do with the engine and box not moving around under engine braking.

Total cost £53

if your sick of the noise, give it a try!
Just be aware of some added cabin vibration.

Well, bit of a long story and i dont seem to be getting any further so see what you guys think as i dont fancy spending £££ on something the issue may not be.

Well, my car whilst driving makes a whirring sound, like a wheel bearing which is broken but only when the car is moving. If i knock into neutral and coast the whirring sound goes. The whirring sound is not there when stud still idleing or stud still whilst revving engine. Could this be a bearing of the drive shaft or is it most likely gearbox related.

just to make my life worse, i get a shudder from 60mph plus. and starts going mental when i get up in the higher MPH's. I have done the obvious wheel balancing. and seeing if all is ok which it is. Could this be a drive shaft broken, or is it likely to be engine mount related?

Any ideas on what could cause these issues as am starting to think the worst about my type r, its falling apart!!!!

Cheers

I have recently had the 4 bearings replaced in my gearbox by grinspeed, 2 of the four had issues either a bit of play or not smooth and free, the car is loads better but not perfect some noise was still there!!!and I was glad to find that at least one of the bearings had damage. Few days after picking it up I noticed the sound seemed to be back and getting worse :bad-words: but steve at grinspeed told me to bring it back and we'll have a look....turns out to be a bearing sheild over the drivers side drive shaft which is mounted on fibre bushes we removed that and the noise has gone!!!! we're replacing the shield but this time with fixed nuts/bolts!!
There is still a slight noise as before but this I am told is the overun of the gearbox and general transmission sound and nothing to be of concern, after all gearbox has been stripped and apart from the 2 bearings is tip top.
A big thanks goes out to steve at grinspeed who has not only been very professional but also very helpful :bigthumb:

not sure which bearings have been replaced but I know it is the 4 connected directly to the drive...worth checking out that sheild as I'm sure this only amplifyed the noise!!

has anyone found out what causes this noise yet as my car is also doing it. sure its something vibrating and not a gearbox bearing as i can get the noise if i rev car up while idling with clutch depressed.

if it was bearings i think the noise would be there under acceleration and deceleration

I got my civic about a year and since the 1st week that I realized a noise exactly like this one.. since then I have researched a lot and already read all the posts I found several times .. I changed the clutch 2 weeks ago and the car remained the same .. the thrust bearing was very worn and the springs in the clutch disc (oem) were loose and made noise too .. the most curious is that the new disk, also oem, brings the springs loose! Anyone know why?
Anyway, all this to say that as many here I have swapped parts and no difference in noise until this week I changed following two pulleys:
-http :/ / http://www.tegiwaimports.com/genuine-ho ... 20a2-4061/

-http :/ / http://www.tegiwaimports.com/genuine-ho ... 20a2-4095/

And the noise is gone! Before when the engine was up "pressure" on low revs in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear made a noise very annoying and very noticeable ..but once I press the clutch the noise disappeared..now the car is complety normal!
At the moment only on idle I notice that there is still a small noise that stops when I press the clutch, like thrust bearing but I think what happens now is just caused by loose springs in The NEW disc, from an original Honda kit! :-|

Do not say it will solve your problem, but nothing liketry, because less money spent trying to fix this way first, than just the gearbox directly!
I hope I can help someone here! :bigthumb:
