My dealer wanted me to have my cam belt changed when i went in to enquire for some spares oil,filters,sparks etc... Apparently a cambelt change is included when they service it....

Dealerships should be forced to learn about the cars they're trying to sell.
I'm sure these days they say it includes a cambelt change because they are notoriously expensive on most cars, so it sounds like a super deal. Right where you but in and "Chain noob", lol and leave.

Pete. I reckon the dealer is bullsh!tting you into a possible sale. Or they have put a lot of very unsafe cars on the road. Either way they're talking crap anyway. You can't put tow bars on CTR's.

I'm shocked that the suspension has been known to collapse with towing? That's shocking - must be the noseweight that does that ... not the towbar as the towbar fits to the body.

There's no point designing it to tow, when it lacks torque, and would be horrible to use as a tow vehicle.

I would think the lack of torque is the reason? I owned a Vauxhall about 17 years ago and, strangely enough, it had 144 lbs/ft of torque - very close to the 142 of the Type R. That towed my trailer really well, but I could imagine it would have struggled with a caravan or horse trailer.

The CTR has a zero towing limit - The suspension has been known to collapse when fitted with a tow bar because it cannot take the weight being loaded onto it.
And as said your insurance might be void.

Nothing to do with torque at all. The 2 litre K series has as much torque as any other NA 2 litre engine.

Its not just the items we've listed above, but it will also invalidate your warranty. Harsh to say but that's the way it is.

Buy it, fit the towbar, take a couple of pic's how they fit it. Going to guess the dremmel comes out, trim a few hols in the rear bumper. Awesome.

All this would be irrelevant if the suspension collapsed when towing. You should be thinking about whether it is safe to tow using a car that's not meant to.....

Heres an idea... Buy your Mugen FN2... And buy a 300 quid shitter diesel to pull the caravan during the summer, then flog or scrap it after? No drama there...

Means absolutely nothing mate. The warranty is with Honda direct not the dealer. The dealer would have to foot the cost.
If the dealer agreed to fit a towbar then they are idiots. Plus would you really want to risk a damaged suspension?

Part of the problem as well is the power delivery of the Type R, it simply doesn't suit towing.

You cannot tow in a Type R. Just accept it. Either tell the wife where to go, or do what i say.

I have been thinking this morning about buying the Mugen200 and keeping my current car for towing. That's fine in theory, only I have 4 cars as it is - could add the fifth I suppose but that's about the garage filled up!

Thanks for your advice - I have taken note of it all - it's such a shame.

The search for my ideal car continues then - the 2.2 Diesel Type S? Would the Torque on that allow towing a small trailer?
