The big one is the inability to install to the SD card which apparently is changing in Android later releases anyway.

Thats not a huge problem though, as Android apps are normally very small in size. :-D

well another is wifi tethering.... its not an issue it does not harm the phone.....i am a firm believer in running on official firmwares but until HTC allow apps to SD then ill stay rooted and just upgrade when they release it if they do? 2.2 is coming soon so it maybe in that??? and you can also put the latest Google, HTC, Orange, T-Mobile firmwares on your rooted phones if you like it does not effect anything if your happy with the phone as is then i really wouldn't bother! these phones are mint and practically unlocked anyways i no most ppl just want rid of the orange or t-mobile branding and that can be done with the creation of a goldcard and the base firmware RUU which the 1st lot of the Desires came out with.... i think it was 10.15.405.3 and there is an update for this already it came out the other week and updates this to .4 but non of the main providers like orange have pushed this out to there customers yet (i dont think i did not get it?). this is another good reason to be on base firmware u get the updates much faster check the heros page on HTC.....

now to get copilot and everything back on n bluetooth working properly :-D

nice one are you running on a UK network or German one? i no the german networks have a different firmware that is or what looks to be a different or newer version because the root hack does not work on the german desires (or it did not yesterday, things could have changed since then?)

The sim free phones are all the same even in the German market. They have the same firmware as me.

2.1 update 1.
1.15.405.4

We just followed the instructions from HTC.

Using your phone as a modem (tethering)
Get online with your notebook or desktop computer at any time, using your phone’s data connection. For information on setting up and using the data connection, see Data connection.

You need to install HTC Sync before you can use your phone as a modem. Refer to Using HTC Sync for details.
You need a SIM card installed on your phone.
Make sure your phone’s data connection is turned on. See Data connection to learn how to turn on the phone’s data connection.
Connect the phone to the computer using the provided USB cable.
On the Connect to PC screen, select Internet sharing, and then tap Done.
Note: When you are using your phone as a modem, the USB mass storage feature is disabled, and you are also not able to use HTC Sync.

Android’s dirty little secret may finally be put to rest soon. Ever since the G1 was released, users have been asking Google to provide a solution which would allow them to store applications on their microSD card. Google finally confirmed they were working on the issue when they launched the Nexus One and now it looks like the fix is in.

The infamous Issue 1151 on the Android Google Code page has been updated from assigned to future release. A Googler named San who made the status change left the following note.

Yeah you can't do that. You always require a cable, that's how mobile tethering is with regards to mobiles.

Another plus point for rooting is the ability to disable apps!

Motorola Cliq: 1.5
iPhone 2G: 1.6 :P

Can't wait for the EVO 4G, looks awesome!
