Let me ask this.

Everybody has done researches about the best CAI or OEM replacement air filter that would give the most BHP and torque. Values differ from 4 Bhp to 15Bhp or so. Thats between 2% to 6% increase on horsepower. What i haven't seen was the fuel consumtion increase. Unless nobody cares about that!
Is it worth changing the air filter just to get a few bhp but at the end of the day pay lots more money on fuel?
One air filter maby cheap to buy, thus low initial cost But fuel consumption could be very high, thus high running cost.

On the other hand another air filter might be expensive to buy but it could have the least fuel consumtion increase, leading to very low running cost than the cheap one.

Summary?
Best air filter is not the one which gives highest Bhp. Its what it does to your wallet after you buy it.
Thats how i look at things
any comments?

The increase in fuel consumption is only when your foot is to the floor.....that's the price you pay I suppose. I have had mine on for about 1200 miles now and have probably increased fuel consumption by about 10% but that's purely down to me not being able to drive the car without flooring it!

Suppose you gotta weigh up the cost versus what you want out of the mod. Personally Im not sure Air filters are worth the cash anyway.

Spend enough on petrol as it is

Dont have any figures to quote but you should get better fuel consumption and lower emissions from "normal driving" as suggested on most air filter products but if you put your foot to the floor as mentioned you will use more fuel because of the increased airflow and combustion rate. Fact is if you buy an aftermarket filter you like to put your foot down and hear the roar so it could be a little costly but a whole lot of fun!!! :D :D :D

i will have some figure for you all in a couple of weeks. im in the middle of testing fuel consumption with HKS, Quickshift and standard. At the moment the HKS with lots of vtec (because I like to lick cows udders and i love the sound) worked out @ 18.8mpg. Will keep you posted

You get better fuel economy under normal driving conditions as the engine is operating more efficiently. Likewise it's capable of more under load so you get worse fuel economy while driving hard. Performance is well worth it though, then you also get the sound :D

18.8mpg????????

The missus would kick my head in if we were getting that sort of fuel economy.

You must be one hell of a "spirited" driver

Nice to see the CTR being used to its potential though! Must admit the sound on VTEC with Induction kit is very addictive!

Ive just filled the tank again with 42L of optimax which i always use. From my last full tank to filling up today i've clocked up 260 miles, which is about 23.5mpg. Thats with plenty of VTECing as well, its unavoidable with a decent indction kit fitted, the noise is too addictive not to. (Using Blitz Sonic ind kit)

You must have spent some serious time in the VTEC zone to get 18.8mpg.

Actually 260 miles on 42 litres of fuel is closer to 28mpg rather than 23mpg. Quite a difference - you're not trying hard enough ;)

The calculation is:

(Miles/Litres)*4.54

This will give mpg
