abp etc and anyone else on here is welcome to an oppinion but i own a ctr and have had a v2 fitted to it and regardless of what some of you say about experts and engineers its my car and i no what its been doing with the v2 fitted running sh-t total lack of power idle all over place on cold mornings but what a suprise i put the slightly modified standard box back on with k&n panel filter and all my problems have been eliminated, whats the chances of that hey lol so personal proof open cone is garbage, Hondata airbox mod and panel filter all the way oh and a supersprint mid section for that rasp when v tec kicks in lol. Who races someone off the lights at 70 mph with loads of wind flow under bonnet ?????? EXACTLY Need i say anymore

Ok, as previously stated I have a v2. I decided to do the hondata mod and see what happens. I have left the oe air filter in as didn't want to spend more money if it wasn't any good. Now this is painfull to say as I have spent time and money on the v2 but the modified box is definately more responsive and it does run a tad better although I didn't have any running problems with the v2. My test was to run the car up the road with the v2 first then same road and conditions (v cold and wet) with the airbox. V2 first gear wheel spin 2nd 3rd 4th etc all with traction. Modded box, 1st and 2nd gear wheel spin 3rd upwards all with traction. It just seems to rev better. I do miss the noise though! Infact I think it's the noise that gives you a false sense of speed!

Question. Will I gain anything buy installing a K&N filter or should I just save my money?

lol at this thread, i have an oem hondata modded box and a mate has the V2, he thinks its the danglies will have to show him this!!!
wasn't there a test in a magazine about 6 months ago where they had a mondeo st24 or st220 cant remember and tried the standard box with pipercross drop in filter, pipercross open cone and then the viper. now it wasn't a performance test no dyno results it was a test to see inlet temperatures at idle part throttle and full throttle. the end result was that the open cone was crap!!!! higher temp at idle and when on full throttle (cant remember the speeds) it sucked in a boat load of hot air and the temp was nearly double that of the standard box on full throttle!!! the viper performed best in the tests but because of the way it sat in the engine bay meant that the cold air feed pointed straight to a direct source of cold air (unlike it does on the ctr) end result open cone are poo sorry guys
had one on my car when i went to visit some friends in germany with it on couldn't get the car past 150mph(on the autobahn) on the clock and it also struggled against my mates mk5 golf gti, took my modded box with me as well and changed it over, car reached 159mph on the clock and i was walking away from the gti. this was in the summer

I had an st24 a few years ago and tbh it was a similar story for that, the oem st200 airbox was the better choice as it had 2 cold air feeds, and because of the V6 setup under the bonnet there was limited room for any fancy induction kit...most of them were just some crappy filter and heatshield kits. Upper and lower inlet manifolds from the states was the way forward..

lol i started this post a couple weeks ago and think its gone preety well so far, i think weve finaly established that v2 or indeed all open cone filters are shite and value for money has to be a hondata modded airbox with drop in k&n lol and as for the odd one or 2 people that disagree, well never mind you will see the full picture one day and get your v2 back on ebay or even in the bin where it belongs with all ctr open cone filters :stfu:

got me thinking now!

i bought a CTR with a AEM CAI (not the V2) already fitted so its all i have ever known. I've read the AEM CAI is better than the V2 as relocated not in engine bay.

Do people still think a modded air box is better than a AEM CAI?

If so what is the best option? what is the hondata modded airbox and where can i get one?

For power, no. For driving through puddles, most certainly.

GruppeM is still by far the best all round solution, it's just more expensive than competitors

Well fitted my lovely new V2 on Christmas day, yep it was feckin freezing but well worth it. Have to say I love it too bits, that noise is worth every single penny!! Seems more responsive during lower revs and v-tec engage seems stronger than before. One happy customer and glad I saved £££ and didn't bother with a Guppe M

Just a shame that I was my usual impatient self when it came to disconnecting the thermo valve, yank yank snap

clean the interior of the stock air box completely, ad a aftermarket filter element (spoon, KN, ITG drop-in, whatever), and put a air feed like the FC Design one straight pointing at the front grille, grill, grile ?

This is bugging me now. I've always wanted a V2 then started reading about the Hondata airbox mod which I've practically decided on but this thread is inconclusive. How come some people who have the V2 swear by them and say the complete opposite to what most people say, i.e. better low rev torque, better vtec kick etc?

I want to know how bad the V2 really is in real life? So long as it feels better or the same as stock when driving normally then I'll be happy with it. And I don't want to know about the M or ITG because I'm not spending that kind of money.

Cheers.

In this weather the v2 will perform quite well as the air is cold, it's only when you stop for a bit ie traffic that it starts to bog down with heat soak. I would emagine that it's quite bad during the summer where the engine bay doesn't cool down very well. I never had the running problems some have had. I also think that it's the noise that fools you into thinking your car is going faster! It burbles upto vtec then it roars and you think Christ this is fast. It's only when you've had it a while and you change to the modded box that you realize.
