Do you think i should notify my honda dealer or leave it for now?
Straight to the dealer, they can clean it up, protect it, on the other hand they might take pictures for future use, if you leave it then take it to the dealer later on, it might be too late to stop it and might question why you didn't take it back to the earlier!

Spoke to my local dealer and the woman said "dont listen to those things you hear on the internet". She also went onto say the problem has been resolved on the 2009 and the CW models.... Booked it in for an inspection this Saturday morning, so i will keep you all posted on how i get along.

It's shocking to hear the amount of problems people are quoting on here, sounds like Honda has some quality assurance issue's going on........Wished i would have bought an FD2 now :bad-words: .... A real shame as i am really enjoying my FN2 and the way it looks , the engine and gear box are totally emence, better than anything i have driven from Audi and the interior quality is better than anything on a Ford Focus!!! The only slight disappointment is the handling but i am looking to purchase a few handling goodies and the mechanical diff from Mugen eventually :WOOT !!!

They have altered the door area that rusts, its still not brilliant, my CW had a brown colourerd area, pointed it out to the dealer and they cleaned it up and put a bit of grease on it.

Its clubs like this that gets problems like that sorted, if she still has a problem print off all the complaints and show her, that will make her shut up

Like any newish car you will have problems and durring the 08 changing to 09, problems will start to be sorted while the current problems are all covered warrenty and will be looked after,

good luck with yours, keep us posted!

This makes me laugh that Honda insist on putting grease on the area to solve the problem, once rust has set in that is it, it needs to cut out or replaced. If you look at the join you can see the weld does not run fully to the edge of the seam and this is the problem. All they have done on the newer models is to extend the piece of black trim tape to cover the gap and keep water out.
This is what I have done to my doors, it will not cure it but it keeps that area dry and slows the process down its better than Appling grease. Having new doors fitted would be the answer but then you will have issues with colour match, ect. I removed the tape recently to check and it is no worse than 12 months ago.

I caught mine early thnaks to these forums, I always keep an eye on it and keep it well greased. I had to dab on some Rust Remedy to make sure that the rust is all killed off.
These doors are not at all well designed, the paint is so thin and soft too! Honda has the worst paint that I've seen on any of my previuos cars, which range from any Fords to a Peugeot.

Just check it before you buy it and keep an eye on it

I went to honda today, they took some photos and told me to go to the honda approved body shop 5 mins away for them to have a look.

the problem, it seems, is the lack of paint thickness(sounds about right being a honda lol) and moisture has got into it and possibly gone down insida the door (however there is no evidence of this)

there are two options it seems:

1) replace both doors, take all my old parts out of the doors (type-r) and stick them into the new door, spray the doors and blend into the bodywork!

This i am not happy with really - because it could be a bad match and its only 1 year old tomorrow! plus the car is mint and i dont want both sides to be resprayed after only 12mths :bad-words:

2)do a local repair, which no one will ever see due to the trim covering everything up. however problem with this is that if it ever comes back(the rust) the the guy said that -that is that and there is nothing else that honda will pay for  :bad-words:  ..... that is awful i think.

So i am left in a bit of a situation, take a risk and protect the cars integrity, or half both sides of the car resprayed, new doors and lots of broken clips where they move all of the parts from the old door to the new one!

the dealer will call me tomorrow, what do you think i should do? also i have only just got the 3rd gear fix done, not happy really. what about asking for some compensation from them. :vconf: :vconf:

Cheers Pete

Hi all

I put mine in this week for rust on doors... (plus other issues) and they will only treat the rust.

I am very dissappointed with this, I don't see why we should put up with rust being treated. The doors should be replaced, the car is only 2 years old !!!

Does anyone feel like taking this to watchdog?

Clint

I have spotted more rust!!!!!!!! I orginally had it on the top usual spot and this was sorted. I now can see it on both doors on the inside when the doors are open!!!!! It's sort of at the height where the handle is. Has anyone else seen this? Guess it's back to dealer again. So annoying :bad-words: I'll try and post a pic.

yep had the same problem myself, on the top of the doors, and further down the door pillar, it seemed to be coming from between the pillar and joint on to the lower part of the door. (Mine is on an 08 plate)

The dealer fixed it under warranty,(well sprayed the area and covered it up aleast) but my main concern is has the rust spread from the top of the door and down the pillar then come out at the joint, and where else will it appear, given time. I will be keeping a close eye on this. I am tempted to take the door panel off and try to investigate and spot any signs of rust, but fear it could effect the warranty/i do some damage. If i decide to keep the car past the warranty date i will be waxoiling it everywhere, due to the poor build quality and materials used.
The my local dealer in stockton is cr*p, can't have a sensible converstaion with them, just get usual salesmen dribble about my concern. I also have an intermittment clutch noise too so might try a different dealership.

over all love the car and handling, but the quality is a big let down

Mines an 08 plate, and i went to stockton honda, wasnt happy. i also had a clicking clutch noise, said they had cleaned it but i think it was a load of balldocks. I am concerned about this rust though, few years ago i had a primera gt and when i got rid of it it still had no rust on it and it was nearly 10 years old. so dont know what do do really as next dealer is harrogate (where i bought car from) unless anyone else knows anywhere good.

I have an 08 CTR which i've owned for around six weeks, mine to is showing early rust on the top of both doors! nightmare I too thought I was buying a quality built machine, I've had several reanault clio sports prior to the CTR the last being a 197, never had issues with the paintwork on any of these ! :???:
