This is the web price so discounted would be gained with a group booking through the travel agent Fraser eagle.
I think Ross developed a good route a couple of years ago through the Prynees we could finish off the tour visiting Le Mans 24 hours if we went in June 2008
Sounds good so far dave!
You could pick me up from Plymouth on the way.

I wouldn't want to do Scandanavia or Eastern Europe though.

1) Fly to New York, hire car and drive to LA
My husband and I flew to San Francisco in the early nineties and hired a car. We drove up to Lake Tahoe, then to Yosemite, through Death Valley, into Las Vegas (for a few days), Grand Canyon, then drove over to Monument Valley, down to Phoenix, Los Angeles, Tijuana for the day, stayed at Los Angeles for a few days and visited Disneyworld (I think), and other attractions and flew out from Los Angeles. It was a fantastic holiday but very tiring. I think it took us eighteen days. We had to keep to the strict speed limits. Would love to do it again some time. I really enjoyed visiting Yosemite.

Thats the problem with the US - there are some great roads but the distances are huge and there are far too many Police knocking about for any 'spirited' driving unless you have local knowledge. I was quite lucky living in Mass as although the motorway speed limit is 65, you can generally get away with 80-85 (5 years, 0 tickets). Most other States are lower (55MPH) and are vigorously enforced for out of State vehicles. Get into the middle of America and it gets very weird especially if you are not American. I'd give it a miss for to be honest - a large group of us would attract the attention of Sheriff Roscoe P Coltrane!

PS Pretty well the same goes for Canada

I am currently researching the Prynees route. If we can get the ferry for about £300 per car (2 passengers) with inside cabin then do the Prynees, making our way to the Millau bridge before doing the best bit of the Alps again or maybe other mountain passes in the Alps. Then head up to the Nurburgring on route home.

That sounds the ticket Dave! I'm sure there's a deal to be done with P&O to go out one way and return the other especially if you are talking 20-30 cars. OK the ferries are expensive, but there's quite a fuel saving and you are getting two nights in floating hotels and 28 hours should give people plenty of time to get their sea legs. The ladies can sun bath on the poop deck whilst we investigate the bars and casino!

Plymouth to Santander is £299 in early october as no prices are available for early June. with group discount plus 10 cars they give 10% discount so that makes about £269 per car this saves about 1000 miles 4 tanks of fuel at £40 per tank = £160 plus whatever tolls to travel through France lets say £50 = £210 so its about £60 more expensive but you do get one nights accommodation so that makes it cheaper. the ferry is 19 hours.

I've got great holidays they're just a bit restrictive. :-|
Dates haven't been decided yet, but if you are genuinely interested in next years tour we will take this into account.
The problem with going early in the year is some passes can be closed but the roads are empty and the ferry and hotels are cheaper,
later in the year the passes are open but traffic is bad and ferries and hotels are dearer,
Do you have a half term in may or June ?

I will definitely be up for next years trip so long as I still have my Civic, started to keep a bit aside for a holiday next year anyway, so I will be ready for what may come.

Hey there,

I know i'm a newbie and it probably been suggested but what about nordscheifle (Nurburgring) with the option to do the track.

I'm always up for a road trip and i've always wanted to go there.

My two pennies worth.

always a favourite to plan into the trip bacause of the type of car we drive. If you fancy the ring then keep your eyes open on future meets section. Some people organise a run down there now and again
