I hope you never get fined dirk, if they base it on your wage i don't think the banks would be able to cope.

Same for most ctro-ers id imagine.

Dunno what the offences were but if a £3k fine is the going rate for them then fair enough, the rich and famous shouldn't be let off lightly because they're rich and famous, by the same token they shouldn't necessarily be punished any more severely either.

I don't get why they let him leave the country without doing the community service.

I have my doubts as to whether your average member of society would have gotten the same light treatment.

Fines should be based on wealth like in Sweden? Denmark? Or which ever one does it..

Would that mean you could break the law for free all the time??

No, it would be the same standard

Rather than it being a fixed amount, it would be a percentage amount.

Makes it fairer, not less fair. If I pay out a £3000 fine and it's 10% of my salary, how is it fair if, for the same offence, my mate pays £3000 and it's only 2% of his salary?

I am not only effectively being punished 5x more for the same offence, but once you've paid off all your bills etc, wealthy people have a hell of a lot higher percentage disposable income too!

Do you think that passports are seized for every minor offence?
No, it was more the fact that leaving the country seems an easy way to get out of community service

How is it fair that just because you have more money your offence is suddenly deemed worse though?

If i have no money is my fine free or very small ? Not sure that would discourage.

I've heard of people get fines that they have to pay back £1 a week and even then they ultimately dont !!

There is no fair way when it comes to fines. Give everyone community orders and make them pick up litter. We'd have a much cleaner country. [smilie=karls_thumb.gif]

if work commitments stop you being able to do community service then you can pay a fine at a certain rate per hour for how ever long you have left.

The fact that he is a multimillionaire doesnt mean he should pay more than average joe surely?

if you get caught doing 35mph in a ferrari should the fine be loads more than getting caught doing 35 in a corsa
