This is the strange thing about the new films, they don't follow on from Pierce Brosnan's efforts, they are more of a set of prequels with Casino Royale being the film where he gets his 00 status. So there wont ever be fancy gadgets until I presume Q develops further in the next films.
Yet he did have the Aston DB5 with ejector seat in Skyfall. I reckon Casino Royale wasn't just young Bond but also a complete reboot, hence why M was still a dame (ignoring the fact Dench came into Bond in Goldeneye as a new female commander), so trying understand how the timeline works is a bit odd. Now we're getting the introduction of Spectre which shows the reboot theory - I'm all for betting that Christoph Waltz will survive at the end, but become Blofeld: lack of hair, scar across eye, white feline, etc.
I just don't get how Bond still has a job - he took M away on his own to keep her alive and she still pegged it. Surely any agent worth their salt would know a lone house in Scotland wouldn't be the best protection. Then again, the whole plot of Skyfall was a lame duck - bad guy makes huge plan, knowing MI7 will lock him up in somewhere he'll know how to get out of, already have explosives planted and running distance from where M will be unprotected so he can shoot her. Of all the Bond villain plots, it wasn't the most exciting and he actually achieved his goal, despite dieing himself.
