Race of champions is a bit duff now its all stadium based. Used to be good in the early days when it was on a full open stage. I still think F1 drivers are like fighter pilots, they are just able to thing that little bit quicker and thus can do many types of racing. i do remember Sebastian Bourdais whipping Marcus Gronholm in his own WRC car.
As for greatest driver, Loeb is up there, i mean he done well at Le mans too. However of course he will be good on circuit as he was always a tarmac specialist anyway in the WRC I still struggle to see his WRC wins as real wins compared to say back in the 90's. The feild is not as strong as it used to be at least for the second half of his wins.
As for greatest driver, hard to do that as some of the greatest drivers are usually unknowns who do loads of races, like Darren Turner, Dirk Müller, Marc Gene, etc etc. All drivers who race in many series, effectively paid for drivers who can consistantly win in many types of car be it a Prototype, a GT car or a regular Tin top.
The thing is i think in todays climate there are so many amazing drivers out there and a lot of it is simply decided by money. so some of the most natural talents will never get seen, Just look at Sean Edwards, an amazing driver relatively unknown to the public again multidisiplined, worse than Loeb, well if based on fame yes, but his CV is on another level and had a huge LMS future guaranteed. Even series like the VLn at the ring are as famous if not more famous than BTCC in Germany.
Andrew Jordan is another one who will end up going that way too, Rallycross from juinior to senior, clios, touring cars and now he's a champ in another discipline he will be able to continue but will get loads of Sportcar offers etc i bet.
All about the money though.
