Hi oilman,

Unfortunately as winter is not too far away I am already thinking of the winter storage of my bike ( 08 plate R6 ). I have read on many forums that it is best practice to drop and change the oil if it is going to be stored for any length of time since the used oil can be acidic and cause damage.

I am therefore on the lookout for a very cheap but suitable oil to put in the bike just for storage throughout the winter. What would you recommend?

It's fully synthetic silkolene I think, not too sure on the exact spec as the last service was carried out at a garage, it's covered about 1500 miles so far but it is a highly stressed engine which revs to 16-17k !

If it's a full synthetic Silkolene, Motul or something in that kind of league, then I'd leave it, or change it now (while we have the offer on as it's cheap) and leave the good stuff in ready to use next year. I wouldn't bother with a cheap oil as it's just a waste of money. A good oil will be fine to leave over winter and still be suitable for use next year.

Hi oilman

What is the best oil for my fn2 CTR 2007 I think currently it has 0-30w FS, from what it says on the service details. Can I use 0-40 FS and what is the real benifits as I don't really know alot about oil and what is good  what would u use if it was ur car also how many litres do I need when it's being serviced

Just use the FUCHS Titan Race Pro S 5w-40 no mate? That's what I always use in mine. Engines are basically the same......mines a little better :shouldbeinteresting:

There are a few 0w-40s and only one I can think of which is the same quality as the fuchs Pro S. The difference between a 5w-40 and 0w-40 is the cold viscosity, a 0w is thinner so flows quicker for cold starts. That is a good thing, usually, but some 0w-40 oils are quite thin compared to other 40 oils when hot, so in a vtec engine, they can burn off pretty quickly. If you get a good ester based 5w-40, it sticks to the metals of the engine, so there is already oil in place when the engine starts.

Cheers
