It has now been re-branded and called Castol Edge 0w-30. I topped up with this as my garage informed me this is what was originally used.

£13.99 for a litre which disappeared into my engine  ,

Oilman, what is your opinion on this oil and is the price I paid expensive ?

Thanks.

Its a straight pao synthetic, good quality but really designed as a longlife oil.

It will always be over priced from a dealer.

Oilman, what do you think of Castrol GTX Magnatec? i have that in my motor at the moment ( its done 13k and no oil change ) and thinking about changing the oil, i dont know that much about the different types of oils etc, but from reading the relevant posts that 0w-40 and 5w-40 are quite good, would i benefit from changing from magnatec to one of the above oils?

cheers in advance

Seems to me Silkolene Pro S 5W 40 Fully Synth is the best oil to go for on the Type R!?

Hi Guy

Had a quick look over this thread and apologies for being too damn lazy to read it all....

Am I right in saying that you recommend Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 for a CTR?

I have an 04 plate, due for it's third service at 28,000

If this is the stuff to use and please re-confirm the price and your delivery charges to West Yorkshire.

Thanks

Right , ive read the thread and reckon its pretty straight forward in my situation ...

sp00d wrote:My dealer stuck in shell fully synth 10W-40 on my first service. Is it worth bleeding the whole thing dry and sticking in mobil 5w-40? Or shall i just top up with mobil 5w-40?
Ok,

The Shell fully syn is not a synthetic, it is a hydrocracked mineral oil, my suggestion is to top up with something similar, and save the good stuff for the next oil change and start with a clean slate, not point mixing the good stuff with the ok stuff.

Cheers

Guy.
I kinda figured that from this post , just double checking its that straight forward .

:D

just got the car , its got 300 miles on it . Im assuming Honda have put in the 10w-40 youve mensioned , to run it in .

1st service is in March , and ill keep using that stuff till then .

When its service time , ill buy your stuff off you ( silkolene 5w-40 ) . Get an oil change , and use that stuff till the car dies :D

Have i got it right mate ?

and how much do i need for an oil change ? Honda will be doing it obviously but how much do i need to buy off you ?

Oilman

Put my CTR in to honda for its 48000 mile / 48 month service and they have filled it up with Texaco semi synthetic 10/40.

My question to you is do i leave this in till its next oil change or get good stuff from you and ditch the semi synthetic stuff they have put in ?

It is up to you. The semi is not going to do any harm, and is fine if changed every 3-5k or so. However a proper synthetic is better then semi, so if you want better then change it.

Cheers

Guy.
