Thanks

After about 4000 miles my oil had droped abit went to honda and they said buy top up kit for 04 ctr from parts department. It was castrol slx 0w-40. Have now done 8000mls used a litre but engine seems to have stopped burning it now should i stay with this oil service due in 2 months. Doing below average mileage. :?:

It is good quality oil and is the right grade, so if your happy with it then stick with it.

Ok, same issue, have read all the mails...

My car has its 3rd service in 2 weeks, I only bought it a month ago and have no idea what oil was used.

Please can you recomend an oil and what price i am expected to pay.

Do all Honda garages let you supply your own oil?

Thanks in advance.

I've had my CTR a week and wanted to make sure I had the right oil come top up time, so I phoned Yeomans in Littlehampton who did the last service and they used 0w-30 Castrol SLX, had a look in Halfords but they didn't stock it, does anyone know where I can get hold of this oil?

Oilman, do you supply this?

Thanks

Dave

Oilman,

This thread is very infomative and has brought me new found knowledge on what I thought was just oil!

However, it doesn't answer my question (I have read this thread several times) which is.

I have a Apr 03' CTR that has had 2 services @ 12.5 & 25k. I have no idea what oil was used at either service, which oil should I TOP UP WITH until the 36 mark?

What does it say on your service sheet that it was filled up with? You must had had an oil change so you must have been charged for oil. I would have to be fully synthetic oil but for which grade, if it isn't on a service sheet/report, the only thing to do would be to ring up the garage and ask them what they would have been using.

You can top up with a 5w-40 synthetic, this should be fine with most of the choices the garage could have made, so next time you have an oil change, find out what it is, or better provide your own then you will know where your are.

****EDIT****

Saw the post about Castrol RS. Trust me not to look first  :P

Hey Oilman,

How would you rate Castrol Formula RS 0W 40 fully synth??

Hopefully quite highly as I just bought 8 litres at Halfrauds!!

They had it at £17.49 for 4L which I thought was too good too miss

Cheers,

Digger,

Yes it's fine, in fact I sell it at the following prices without any special offer, that shows how expensive Halfords is normally until they've overstocked!

4L £24.49
8L £46.99
16L £89.99

Cheers
Simon
