How do PM's work on this forum

I replied and send a PM but it is just sitting in my Outbox and not going into my Sent box. Is this correct? Does it only go into sent when the recipient reads it or is there something wrong with my account and it is not sending because it is not going into sent. with email it goes into sent straight away.
