M135i all day long.

Wonder how the Golf R would do against the RS3?

FF to around 16 mins, to watch the M135i pretty much stay on terms with a car costing 10k more. If the Golf can also do that, I'd be very impressed.

That M135i is an awesome little car, 10k cheaper, sounds better and 0-100mph in under 11 seconds :salut:

Imagine if the proper M version was 40-50kg lighter, had a proper diff, tweaked suspension and about 25bhp more I don't think there's another hatch that will even come close.

The 7-speed VW unit is a sealed unit and is only used with less powerful engines (<140bhp iirc). The GTi, GTD and R all use the 6-speed box which can handle more power but do unfortunately have to be serviced occasionally to change the fluid.

Really tempted to see if I can get my hands on one of these next year as I could use a 5-door hatchback to replace my Scirocco. I test drove a M135 and the engine is lovely but I'm not sure about the rest of the car. The Golf might be a tad dull but the BMW is plug-ugly whichever angle you look at it from! I'm also not convinced that 320bhp and RWD is a good solution for Northern Scottish winters either.

Just think it needs better wheels and it would look fine.

Yeah, they are hideous. Mind you it seems to be a feature of sporty golfs to have awful wheels.

Had a ride in a colleagues new Golf R last week.

Great car, would be happy to own one.

Just lacks soul/drama/ethos etc

There's no denying its a decent car, probably well built, fast and safe but it seems like car for the sort of people that need to have the latest thing.
