2013 Ford Focus RS confirmed with 380bhp
Ford’s Global Small Car Boss, Gunnar Herrmann, has confirmed the next generation 2013 Ford Focus RS will arrive with up to 380bhp.

We never really had any doubt that Ford would produce an RS version of the new Focus. Although we did think that the 2012 Focus RS would come with a hybrid setup giving 4WD. But it seems not.
Gunnar Herrmann – who is Ford’s head of small cars globally – has been in Australia for the launch of the new Focus. And ‘Drive’ got the chance to throw a few questions at Herr Herrmann (which sounds like a name from Allo Allo) who was surprisingly forthcoming.
Gunnar (for that is far easier than Herr Herrman) said that Ford are indeed working on a new RS and that we can expect it in late 2013 (a bit later than we’d expected).
He also went on to say that Ford are working with development units producing 380bhp in the Focus RS and that they are still going to rely on RevoKnuckle to keep the front wheels in check, because they are going to stick with FWD and not use a couple of electric motors on the back wheels for a hybrid setup.
Ford are going to use the 2.0 litre EcoBoost in the 2013 RS but push it up to nearly 400bhp – which must be at the edge of its reliability. We would have thought a hybrid setup with electric motors on the back wheels would have been easier on the engine, and cast a nice green glow to polish Ford’s eco-cred in the process.
But at least Ford are going to make a new generation Focus RS. Good news.

It will be stunning if they can actually get the power down. Its a Ford though so you can almost bet your house on it that the chassis will be awesome.

Just hope it looks good, the new 'Global Focus' is one of the dullest looking hatches now on sale. They've gone from the most striking hatch to the dullest IMO.

LOL.

So the characterful 5 cylinder engine is gone, and it's till going be FWD. It's bound to limit power in first few gears, who the flip whats that. Should be 4WD with that much power.

380 hp suggests 350 lb ft+ add that to the fact that its likely to be spikey torque delivery (small engine high boost) your asking a hell of alot of the front tyres

I've driven a 400 bhp Focus RS on a supercar experience day recently, it kept up with a Ferrari 430 and was definately quicker than a Ferrari 360. Very impressed with the car. There's alot of nonsense written about the Focus RS it's a great car.

Hint. Next time it's wet, plant your right foot on the accelerator in 1st or 2nd gear and see what happens in your 280bhp Mazda. Now what do you think is going to happen in a car with 380-400bhp.

Not saying the car won't work, of course it will, but it's not ideal, you cannot get that power down 100% through the front wheels. No doubt it will cost 30k as well.

Are you sure the driver of the F430 had taken the handbrake off gilberto?

The polestar was rumoured to cost £50k if it were made, its pretty much what is described although it uses a different turbo and 2.5 engine, but 400bhp and 4wd.

My JCW mini was horrific in anything other than dry with 230bhp through the front wheels, i hated it! 400bhp is just silly in anything less than 3rd gear without superior throttle control.

When does anyone launch there car in the wet or even drive anywhere near the limit for that matter? tell you what ill try it in mine when your at the side of me ;)

You can get the power down its all down to the driver and the way the car drives you only have to look at jamsports to see that 0-60 in the 4's and 100mph in under 10secs not bad for a FWD really then once rolling you have an even bigger advantage

Pointless trying to hate a car thats not even out yet people said exactly the same with the mk2 FRS and the reviews were still all amazing

Oh look, a new RS is announced, another 'why isn't it 4wd?' conversation.

It won't happen because Ford won't spend the money developing it and in their mind the chassis can cope. And to a point it will be able to.

But that is the point. Up to a point it will be able to? I wouldn't want to be spending what will be more than likely nearly 30k for the chassis to cope up to a point.

You do that Danneth. Id be right along side you waving.

Oh you went there, it's all down to the driver? balldocks. Plus the Mk2 RS had a heavier 5 Cylinder engine up front, this will wheelspin until it's stuck in the tarmac.

Lots of people must launch there cars, seeing as lots of cars come with launch control these days.

I like both Focus RS's for the record. And yeah reviews said the RS was awesome, but it still wheelspins like a bitch, ive been in one on a dry road and had a play with one and it barely any faster as it just shredded it's tyres.

First youtube vid i searched for:
wheelspin heaven lol.

It's all down to one simple thing. Mapping. It's not hard to map the car so the boost doesn't come in in a big lump, look at the turbo VAG cars.

Long time ago I had and Ep3 for 220k kilometers in[…]
