My car is SORN at the moment. Say I go to the post office on the 17th of the month do I get the choice of having the tax start from the beginning of the next month or does it have to start from the beginning of the month you buy it in?

No, if the car is sorn'd it will start from the 1st of the month you buy it in, alas lose 17days road tax.

Cool. I haven't bought the tax yet, but when I do I'll make sure I go in on the first of the month then.
