Hi, I went to Bedford Autodrome yesterday for a track day and drove my friends DC2. Then i took my Civic round. If anyone out there thinks a civic handles as good as the teg then they are talking out of their arse. Them Dc2's are absolutely amazing. They are the best car i've ever driven. Now the civic is going up for sale. I've only had it a couple of months but that bloody dc2 put me off of it. Just a question, do i just go and get a DC2 or is the DC5 as good or better? I love the look of the DC5 as i think the DC2 is dated but if its not as good then sod the looks. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Tommy

Hi, I'm just looking now to see if there are any to go and look at in my area. I've just been reading one of the other topics on dc2 verses ep3 and until it started getting stupid it was quite interesting to see peoples comments. In my opinion though it is absolutely without doubt the integra is faster than the civic in a straight line as i put mine up against my friends on the way to Germany recently. Also on track it stands head and shoulders above the civic - miles ahead infact. However if i was having an everyday road car only, i'll have the civic. Anyway back onto the original subject, does anyone want to trade their DC2/DC5 for my Civic - I doubt it! Still i thought i'd ask.

Having driven both(my Son had a DC2 for a couple of years) and have now had my DC5 for nearly 3 yrs my opinion would be....DC2 for track days or as a weekend car and the DC5 as more of an every day car. The DC2 is an amazing car but I feel one that would be too"mad" for daily driving ...the DC5 is probably the best compromise..as fast as a DC2 and as comfortable as your EP3 and still one of the best handling cars out there.Although pretty reliable the DC2 is getting on a bit now and any faults or fixes could prove expensive..the DC5 however is the newer model and even though an import, can be serviced at any Honda garage as most engine parts are from the EP3....PLUS....IT LOOKS THE DOGS BO11OCKS

DC2 all the way, had one for 6 months, sold it and regreted it. Had a 260bhp DC5 for over 2 years and found the diff a bit agressive and tail a bit twitchy but a great car. Sold the EVO now and will be getting a DC2 for weekend fun

JDM = Japanese Domestic Market (i.e. an import)
The JDM DC2's have square 'Calibra' lights as opposed to the UK twin 'Celica' ones so that's how you tell them apart.
They also have no fog light cut into the rear bumper like the UK ones.

There are only 2 UK specs:
- the earlier ones came in Championship White only and had the older-style steering wheel.
- from 1999 (I think) they also came in Red or Black and they had the newer Momo steering wheel.

The Japanese ones had at least 3:
- the regular one came with an extra 10bhp than the UK one and was a bit lighter but the brakes weren't as good.
- the 98' Spec had revised suspension, better brakes and 16" wheels.
- the Type-RX was a 98' Spec with power folding mirrors and tints on the rears. Rare as hell.

I'm no DC2 expert though so I'm sure someone will step in to correct me :-D

Never driven a DC5 so can't comment, however I had an EP3 back in 2001 when they came out. At the time I thought the EP3 was amazing and I still have fond memories of it. Now I have a MY05 STI PPP, EVO VI TME and a DC2 Type R. The Teg is an awesome drive, I won't even make a comparson with the EP3 as there really isn't one. The Teg is a true Type Honda service history with only 28k on the clock  , a real find :-D

Get a DC2 and bag a little of motoring history.

Ive been thinking about going back to the DC2 after driving my uncles 96 spec DC2, which he just purchased. I have had a UKDM DC2 and 3 DC5's. On my 3rd one now.

DC2: Go-kart, great fun, awesome engine, half the price of a DC5, Looks really dated now, rear and side profiles are butt ugly, interior, isnt much of one, syncro's die if using it hard overtime. Brakes are not its talking point, very lively rear, easy to get oversteer.

DC5: handles just aswell as the DC2, if not better on the road and track, engine responds alot better to mods. 260bhp easily acheiveable, alot better out of vtec, i believe stock for stock the DC5 is 1 second quicker around the track honda tested them. DC5 looks alot better, it is alot newer, feels more of a car. Brakes are very good, gearbox is alot stronger. Feels more planted, and steering is alot more responsive imo.

Ive decided to keep my DC5 as when i look at the DC2 i think, yuk/too dated now for me. lol. And my uncles JDM DC2 cannot shake me, on the country lanes and i know he's having to work much much harder

You need to look at both, drive both. Then decide.

Well as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I'd have to disagree on your points about the DC2, your brakes must have been shagged as my DC2 can brake just as good as my STI and EVO with probabley more feel. The interior is functional, with easy to see dials and great driving position, it meets the brief as a drivers car. If you want luxury and up to date design ergonomics then don't buy a DC2. As for the looks, I still think the UK DC2 looks fresh from all angles IMHO of course

Agreed Mark, its all to do with personal opinion. Compared to my DC5 the DC2 brakes are no where near. We have put AP Dixel Discs and Pads all round costing £600 on the DC2 and my DC5 can still brake just as well on OEM pads and discs, the Brembo 4 pots help loads.

Unfortunatly my someon drove into the back of my uncles DC2 :( looks like a write of. But he is looking out for another one.
