omg no more cod thats all am gutted about i was playing earlier no problem and switched it off as normal and now a couple of hours later it has just died i got the RED light of DEATH the red light keeps on flashing..

It's not the date issue is it? Else I hope you get the "amber" light issue?

will changing my harddrive fix this fault?

I'm still running a launch day 60gb model. It's still going strong but I dread the day. I guess you lose all your game saves, but what about all the DLC you've paid for?

i paid around the 650 pound mark from the day i waited 3 hours in line to buy this machine it has been good to me over the years if it was a women id be shagging it everynight..

but if anyone has info if i change the hard drive will it be all good?

As long as you sign into PSN using the same, username, e-mail and password as your previous machine, you can download all your DLC for free again. Takes ages though, especially if you've built up a big collection! DLC can be downloaded onto as many as 5 machines before you'd have to buy it again.

It's worth backing up to an external HDD every so often if you have one, so you don't lose your game saves.

just found a local shop to me and they said they would repair it without losing any data whatsoever for the cost of 50 pounds.. :WOOT

Mine died last night. Easy to fix, you just need a heat gun. If you can work on cars you can work on a PS3!

yeh ive been fiting alarms for the past 7 years to cars so im pretty confident so you dont it before?

so whats the cause of this fault? over heating ?

fRom what I've gathered it's down to Sony cheaping out on there solder they used to solder the CPU and gpu chips they eventually over heat and over time they lose contact from the motherboard

ahh ok. So its a dry joint issue, hence the heat gun.
