This, hence why I think the next gen push is more to do with having more control on gamers (more dlc, access codes, locked out second hand games) and less to do with actual advancement in graphics/sound etc.
They have though, majority of games cant do 1080p at 60fps, hardware cant handle it.
The average console gamer wouldn't know 1080p and 60fps if it jumped up and bit their arse. So in this respect its simply not required.

Progress isn't driven by the average mong. 30 v 60 fps is substantial.

The question is do they need to do it? They've only just stopped producing the PS2 and up till recently that was still the best selling product they had. The average console gamer doesn't need the specs you're talking about.

You want these specs? Buy a PC and be an uber geek.

Wants vs needs always a dodgy one.

You say the hardcore people will buy both etc those same hardcore people will want the best spec they can get for the money without having to sit at a computer desk and instead sat nice and comfy on the sofa.

What still runs at 30 fps?

What's the argument all about, for starters the graphics card from last year which will be probaly used will be much better than those from 2005, if your waiting for the same difference between ps1-ps2-ps3 you will be waiting a long time,

Fact is the graphics will be better than what we have now, bigger maps. Longer draw distances, more players in one game, who doesn't want more than 24 players in bf when pc gets 64?

And like I said before, the last couple of f1 games have bad terrible frame rate issues at times partly because theve added more stuff you would expect and still keep the graphics quality acceptable, something always seems to give

Poor frame rates is more down to poor coding in this case. Even the PC versions are known to suffer from this.

the pc versions are ports from the consoles which may explain that

Look I'm no tech wizard, never claimed to be either, just go off what I read and any issues that occur, and its quite obvious to even me we could be experiencing alot better than we are now,

And I know I've brought this up a lot but day z a game Id like to play, the developers said it wouldn't be possible to make on the current consoles. The game relied on great draw distances and lots of people online, did I mention graphics

Day Z on console sounds interesting. Saves me spending money on a geeky computer.

Hence why I said, poor coding. If its not correctly optimised then its going to be rubbish.

Current consoles struggle to deliver 60 fps without detail reductions at 720p never mind 1080p.

I keep seeing this "2013 release Japan and USA, 2014 for Europe" pop up, hope its not true

Was the ps3 the same story?

http://www.giantbomb.com/60-fps-on-cons ... 223/games/

Plenty of games support 60fps on consoles.

However there was a tweet from John Carmack recently who stated that next gen console games producers will still target 30fps as its the sweet spot for them.

John Carmack was the founder of ID games.

PC can still play shoddy ports because they are far more powerful. Or some uber geek goes into the code and fixes what the developers couldn't be arsed fixing.
Recent example was Dark Souls. Direct port to PC and developers said it would take too much time to bring out HD graphics, make it go above 30fps. The same day 2 kids had already brought out the mod to unlock it.

Skyrim, GTA have some absolutely stunning grahpic mods out there that if a tiny group can pull off in a few weeks without high tech gear why can't the devs ?

They do support it but like I said they have to reduce details and lower the resolution.

More than time for a console refresh.

Have EA done the Activision/Ubisoft thing of removing story based content yet? That's like taking pages out of a book or scenes from a film and expecting you to pay extra a month later. The whole practice stinks. Bring back old school gaming where £40 got you the full game, with all the characters, costumes, weapons and story together in one. You also unlocked cheats and the rest by playing the game, not by paying extra.
I haven't played a game that has DLC for ages, but the last one that really got my back up was Alan Wake where the final 5 chapters or something were DLC

Never bought any DLC, couple of expansion packs perhaps but I dont recall buying any DLC.

By the time DLC arrives I have usually moved on.
