I had an excellent day, and am now exhausted!

I have to say that I was very impressed with the quality of instruction from Glyn. He assessed my driving, explained the areas that he wanted to work on, then demonstrated the techniques on the road, then handed the car back to me to drive for the rest of the session. We spent about 4:30 hours in total along the Military Road and Alston Pass (Glyn's promised to email me the route, 'cause there were some lovely roads), and that was about right.

We covered defensive driving, judging the correct speed through corners, use of gears, overtaking technique and correct positioning of the car for visibility and safety.

By the end of the session, I was driving much more smoothly, more confidently, faster and better balanced through corners (but never too fast) and more safely. I've never spent so much time on the other side of the road!

Cheers,
Liam

For those interested, the route we took was:

B6318 from Heddon on the Wall to Greenhead - A6071 from Brampton to Longtown - A7 from Longtown to Carlisle - unclassifies road from Durdar (south of Carlisle) to north of Penrith via Ivegill - A686 from Penrith over Alson to Hexham.

Most of us in Newcastle got Ray Bradly for our MAC course. He too was a top bloke.

However, we drove up to the borders but probs did very similar stuff you covered.

I'd heard that Ray was good. It's good to know that MAC have more than one good instructor in the area though. I'm tempted to go on a MAC track day next year.

I'm actually heading up to Glasgow this weekend from Chester le Street. I'm thinking A68 to Jedburgh, A72 through Peebles, A721, then I can join the M74 somewhere round Bothwell. Any other suggestions, or advice on where to watch out for cameras?

Cheers,
Liam
