hondata airbox mod works

hi guys, just got my type r last week and was dying to put an induction kit on her for the noise but the more i read on the forum the more i realised that its not the way to go. i saw some post about the hondata mod and thought oik it, its free.
so i got my car dynoed at my mates workshop (standard) a few days ago and it was pumping out a very healthy 195.7 bhp which i thought was pretty decent.
got my self a secondhand airbox of gumtree with filter for a bargain £15, let the chopping begin.

started hacking away and thought balls to this, i want a bit more noise so i cut a couple of holes on the cold side of the airbox, done them with mesh and made up little cold air ducts out of sheet metal. mint

on first drive the car sounded class, bit more noise but not like a cone, just nice. the car felt much better in the vetec also, pulling very hard right to the limiter. but is it all in my head this is the big question.

no it was not , got my car back on the dyno today and was very pleased with 200.3 bhp .
the power and torque is pretty much identical until you are in the vtec but from then on its all good.

so get out there and get chopping .
cheers :WOOT

yep, pretty much as expected....minimal gains but worthwhile doing as it is a nice clean and efficient way to improve the system slightly. Would have this over many of the induction kits available for the type r, no names needed as you know who they are.

It is a good mod especially as its free! I'm currently renaking the top of the stock airbox out of fibreglass so that I can use a different air filter inside. Also going to make a decent cold air feed scoop out of fibreglass

Here's mine, looking at the pic could still do with a little tidying but otherwise it's OK I think. Cut a little too deep between the chambers (after reading the Hondata instructions - still did it!) so had to rebuild the top and seal with epoxy plasti-weld. Has bonded brilliantly, great stuff.

That sounds pretty good.

I did mine a few months back, but havnt drilled any holes in it like you have. Have you any pics of yours, so I can see where to drill the holes?

Cut to deep with mine too, used a hack saw.

Where did you buy the plastic weld from and how did you reseal it?

It's a 3M two part epoxy, mate of mine owns a body shop was just pinched some from him. Presume you can get something similar from B&Q, it's basically Evo-stick just black and a little more flexible once dry.

Failing B&Q, have a Google for 2 part plastic epoxy there's bound to be some places online that'll sell it.
