Shudders like a £40 xbox wheel when I start the ignition.

If it's on a fk2 mines does the same it's when you lock the steering it does it when you press the start button and as you says shudders makes a weird noise but I'm sure it's just unlocking the steering lock

I think that could possibly be the power steering kicking in.

On another note... anyone notice any steering wheel vibrations while driving?

The power steering is electric and will come to life at the same time the column unlocks when you power up the car.
I don't get vibrations while driving, could be a lost wheel weight or tyre/wheel damage?
