The largest Civic Type R club forum

Established in 2002 it brings together people from all over the world to discuss their one love of Type R's.

Have a recipe to share? It doesn't matter if its cheesy beans on toast or Foie Gras, or maybe some cooking tips that could make Heston Blumenthal look like a rank amateur? Then post them in here and let the world know.

Look at those prices and tell me you're not lolling.

edit - actually tbf, they seem to be discounted heavily nowadays. But I recall looking a few years ago online and seeing them for around 20-30% more.
So who doesn't know about knives on here?

I bought a set of those years ago. The steel is awful quality, oxidises very very quickly.

Was thinking the quality would be bad. It's sold on tv so it has to be
Why did you buy a set?

Just wanted to compare them to some of the more expensive knives we have.

Lakeland must be kidding - just comparing the 15cm flexible utility - £47 pounds in OZ and £71.99 in Lakeland. Actually, just had a quick look on Amazon and that price doesn't look high. The UK distributor must be a rip-off merchant.

My Global cleaver costs £96 in OZ vs £140 in the UK

I don't quite see the objection some have to expensive knives. A Global knife is probably a once in a lifetime purchase as it will outlast you. People hardly seem to blink at shelling out £500+ for a fancy smartphone they ditch for a new one every 2 years.

Earlier in this thread I dissed my Kyocera ceramic knife. I would just like to update that as I have found a way to sharpen the thing and it is now my favourite knife as even though the sharpening is more time consuming than for a steel knife, you could get away with only doing it once a year or two if you weren't as fussy as me.

Global are basically known to be overpriced. They're good, but not worth the money.
Say's who?
Me for one.

No it's not 3x the price of the equivalent Victorinox knife.

You'll pay £300 for a forged 3 blade Victorinox knife set as well. You won't pay £900 for a Global set will you?

I know.....I sell them!

I have the G2 knife and I have to admit, unless your name is Patrick bateman, its not worth the money
I've got one of those. I actually prefer our Wusthof for that size. However some of the Globals are brilliant. You just have to look after them like any good knife. As someone said, they'll outlast you if looked after.

@ the pro chefs.
Would you recommend knives with a fluted edge or just a normal blade?
Fluted looks cooler but i have no idea if it is better or not.
